Kittens and Kids

A couple of months ago we adopted two tiny kittens that had been found under our church. They are both solid white. The children named the male "Boo" and the female "Cotton."

While the children are not 'taking care of' the pets independently yet, this has proven to be a great age for the sheer enjoyment of watching playful kittens grow.

The boys have taken to Boo. He is wild and playful, but allows them to handle him with very few scratching incidents. R & P are doing a great job treating him kindly. (OK, there was an impromptu gravity experiment involving the fort and the slide a few weeks ago, but since then we have been in great shape!) K has completely fallen head over heels in love with Cotton. (That may be an understatement.) I am amazed at how Cotton has assumed the role of baby. She is the most docile and cooperative kitten I have ever seen. K has assigned her a basket, a lovey and a special blanket. She allows her to swaddle her with no protest and then falls asleep like this...

And while I certainly do NOT encourage pets at the table, I couldn't help but snap a picture when I saw K's baby doll had been replaced yesterday morning with this...

In the words of my mother: "There is going to be big trouble when/if Cotton discovers she is a cat."

My son has been begging for a cat ever since our adopted stray disappeared. Our 12 year old lab/husky/shepherd won't stand for another pet in the house. He almost didn't survive the first cat.

See your trio with kittens makes me excited for the day we can get a kitty and the constant conversations about when that will happen easier to handle.

I used to love on my kitten, Mittens, the same way K is loving on Cotton. It's still one of my sweetest childhood memories :)

So adorable! My husband and our oldest son are allergic, so I'm having cat envy!

I had a white cat, Bisquit, as a child. He was so sweet and my sister and I used to put him in doll clothes and even put blush and eyeshadow on him. He purred the entire time. We were told that some white cats with blue or green eyes are deaf, but Bisquit wasn't. Seeing your kiddos with those sweet kittens reminds me of my bed buddy. We have 2 tabby cats and a 7 month old lab puppy in addition to our 2 rowdy boys. Give those precious kitties a hug and kiss from this cat lover :)
