Loving Five

There are many wonderful things about being five.

After school, K asked me if we could 'do some gardening' today.
"Of course," I replied, unsure of exactly what she had in mind.
"Let me get dressed!"
A few minutes later she returned dressed to garden. She was wearing an old cowboy hat (from her 4 year old birthday party) that she had bent into a more floppy shape, suitable for working in the Summer sun. She had also stuck a feather (from my 'Bama boa purchased in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl) in the top for good measure. On her wrist she was carrying a basket (originally used for Toto when she dressed as Dorothy for Halloween in 2007).

She walked outside and headed straight for the liriope that lines our driveway. She spent 10 minutes joyfully pulling the stalks of purple flowers while singing in an affected operatic voice, "Let there be peeeeeace on Earrrrrrth" over and over and over again. There was such joy and purpose to her work. I couldn't help but watch her with a silly grin on my face. A precious memory, until she was interrupted by a 5 year old male sibling who was intent on disrupting her peace, by assaulting her with his sidewalk chalk rake.
Which, truthfully, brought her a fair bit of joy as well.

Sweet! I loved 5 too, and now he's almost 7. I'm about to be enjoying 5 again - hope it's smoother than 4 this time around!

She is so precious! I love it.

I'm also glad to know the real name of that plant (liriope) . . . fun to say and pretty to see.

5 is a good year. Soak it in. : )
