I have had several e-mail requests recently about devotions for children. We have tried many, but my favorites are:
The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers This is a great place to start with young children. The devotions are very short and easy to understand. We started using these at about 2 1/2 years old.
The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name This is a wonderful book with gorgeous illustrations. My children loved listening to the stories. It proved to be a great way to introduce Bible stories to young children in a way that ties in the promise of the coming Savior all the way back in Genesis.
Five Minute Devotions for Children:Celebrating God's Word as a Family and More Five Minute Devotions for Children This is a great collection of animal oriented devotions for the older preschool child. The illustrations are nice and the lessons incorporate basic animal behavior/science as well as Biblical lessons.
Most recently we have started using Leading Little Ones to God thanks to a tip from Perri. We are only 11days in, but this has been surprisingly effective at systematically leading my children through basic tenets of Christian faith. It is an older book without much flashy illustration...but it works and my children are really comprehending truths I would have expected to be a little beyond them. I would not recommend this for anyone under 5 years old.
If you have never tried devotion time with your children, don't be intimidated...a good book, your warm lap and a few minutes before bed is all you need.
I have tried a dozen other books, but these are my top recommendations. If anyone else wants to leave suggestions, please do so in the comments.

thank you! I was already planning on going to the Christian bookstore; now I know what to look for. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! I am going to be doing "pre-school" with Asher a few mornings a week to have some structured mama/son time. I wanted to do some devotions so this came at a perfect time! Thanks again for you wonderful blog!

We are currently using a combination of the Jesus Storybook Bible and Leading Little Ones to God. I really like both of them!
