Overheard

Episode One
From the backseat last night:
P: "Mommy, why did it say no MSG at that place you ate the rice udder day?"
M: (Thinking: What on Earth? Oh, we did eat at the Mall food court Friday. How do they remember this stuff???)  Well, MSG is something people put in food sometimes, kinda like how we use salt sometimes. Some people don't like it, so the restaurant wants people to know they did not put it in their food.
P: "Oh. Well, I like MSG in my food."

It is blowing my mind now that they know letters and are trying to sound things out. They aren't quite there yet, but I am getting a glimpse of how wide open the world will be once they learn how. Wow! I fear protecting their little hearts and minds is about to get a lot more difficult.

Episode Two
Another incident of hearing my own words used against me...
I was moving clothes from the washer to the dryer as R walked into the laundry room.
M: "Do you want to help me put these clothes in the dryer?"
R: (After helping for maybe 15 seconds) "Ma, you are so strong. I know you can do this." Then he scurried from the room.
That's what I get for fostering independence. They feel the need to use my same form of reverse psychology on me!

Episode Three
This morning as we were finishing breakfast (and completely out of the blue)
P: "Mom, how do we open up our heart to let God come in?"
M: "We just use our words and ask Him to come live there."
P's scrunched up face still looked a little worried. I sensed what my little literal thinker was probably pondering.
M: "We don't have to open our body up like when Daddy does surgery. God is so amazing and magical He just needs our words."
Immediately his face looked relaxed.

I love R's comment about you being so strong. He's a smart boy. That tickled me so much! Thanks for a laugh on this manic Monday!

Your children are precious, and P is so smart!!! To be only 3.5 and asking questions about salvation is awesome! You have so much to be proud of!

I sometimes think it will be a sad day when I cannot S-P-E-L-L words to my husband to keep little ears from listening.
