Even though there was no school today, we were up and outside this morning before sunrise.
My husband had a few patients cancel their surgery, so he was able to get home from the hospital shortly after lunch. That's when the REAL snow games began!
R wanted to build a snow fort. It wound up being more of a wall...but for hiding and hurling snowballs it will suffice!
Our brand new sled more than recouped the $15 investment today!
I like to think of myself as a fun, adventurous Mom. Then I look back at pictures and realize I am such a Nervous Nellie. (Some might call it cautious and responsible, right?) After this ride K said bluntly, "That wasn't fun, Mom." I concede that her Daddy's rides were much wilder! We sledded. We hiked downtown. We made snow cream. We had hot chocolate. We threw snow balls. We snuggled in front of the fire and watched a movie. We trashed my kitchen with wet articles of clothing. We ate icicles. There were a fair number of melt downs because we were cold, uncomfortable and/or had ill fitting gear. Our cheeks got pink and our fingers and toes got chilly.
We did not get dangerous or damaging ice. We did not lose power. Our Daddy got to be home from work for most of the day. We saw our ordinary, every day world come to a stop and get covered in a sweet gift from the heavens that made everything seem fresh, new and exciting. We had the gift of clear schedules, family time and high adventure in our own neighborhood.
Now that was a Snow Day!

Your kids are adorable, and YOU look adorable on the sled. I struggle between keeping my kids safe and having fun with them. Of course, mine are much older and having fun with them is more dangerous for ME now!
I'm glad your sled got used. Looks like a wonderful day, and now we're getting your leftover snow...though not, it appears, anywhere near as much (which is just fine with me).
Sounds like the perfect day to me! We were hoping for the same in Louisiana but all we got was rain!!
Looks like you had a great time in the snow. We are expecting some here in Ohio too, but we are so used to it that all will go on as normal. The kids will have school. I will go to work. The snow plows will take care of things.
I had to crack up at your husband's shovel. I wasn't sure if he was using that to shovel the driveway or to help the kids make the snow fort but it was awful cute to see a spade shovel in a snowstorm.
cute cute cute pics.
You can't ask for a better day! Great way to take advantage of it. Love all the photos.

When I saw the national weather report on TV this morning, I thought of your family and several other families I know in GA, and my heart was tickled for all of you!

Soooo fun! Snow days are the best and you are right...they are a gift from the heavens. It always makes me smile when we have a snow day and I feel it is Gods way of telling us to slow down and enjoy the scenery!
Love it!!! Your day makes me appreciate that much more the gift of living up north and the snow that so many of us complain about rather than revel in.
I had been to Utah and snow memories are a blessing!!
Enjoy these snow time , the pictures are very lovely!!
We were out shoveling fresh snow today in Wisconsin, but I think you actually got more snow in Georgia! Looks like you made the most of it. :o)

Love the photos! I live about 30 miles north of Chattanooga, TN, and we had 9 inches at my house! My kids are both teenagers, but we had fun nonetheless
