Melting

Last night during prayers, I was encouraging P with reminders that God had a plan for his life.
Maybe it was the low light, the fact that his glasses were off and he just looked so young and innocent, but his face just screamed 'purity of childhood' as he got a little sparkle in his eye.
"I think I know His plan for me, Mama, but I can't tell you yet."
He was puffed up and beaming, seemingly so proud to have a plan for his life at the tender age of six.
I prodded and asked him to please tell me.
"I think it should be a surprise for you," he added.
After a little more coaxing he finally relented, "It starts with an S, but it is not sports. It is something I am really good at..."
I was stuck.
"Two words, Mama. S-- and H--."
Sensing I was still stumped he whispered, "I am going to be a super hero."
Best career plan ever.

R has really turned that little boy corner of being less snuggly with me than he has always been. Historically my most affectionate child, he is starting to pull away from Mama and more towards Daddy. I have tried to not let my feelings get involved because I know it is normal little boy development. Nonetheless, when I do get my snuggly moments with him I try to savor them.

As I was hugging on him tonight I told him that I was really enjoying what a young man he was becoming, but I missed getting to hug on him as much as I used to. I guess it was the fact that we were wrapping up snow day #2 today and making plans for yet another day out of school tomorrow that prompted his thoughts, but a few minutes later, over dinner, he said,
"Mama, I hope when I grow up and get ready for college it will snow. Then I can just stay home with you a little longer."

One thing is for sure: The snow outside isn't melting nearly as much as 6 year old sweetness melts this Mama's heart.

This so reminds me of when my third was growing up. His goal was to build a log cabin and all of us live with him forever! (He is married and has his own home.) But oh the sweetness.

What is it about boys and their mommas? It is such a special bond that I don't think you "get" until you have a son...gives me a new perspective on the mother-in-law role!

Oh! That is the sweetest ever. There's nothing I like more than snuggling up with my little guy & smelling his sweet, stinky boy smell. He's almost 4 and I dread the day!
