Nana at 92
Friday after school we got our children gussied up for a formal dinner in downtown Atlanta to celebrate Nana's 92nd birthday.
My little people were wiped out from their fun run that day, allergies, a road trip and still adjusting to the time change--but we had a good time despite it all.
It was an intimate family affair, attended only by my family of five, Nana and my inlaws. Nana had not been feeling well for a couple of days leading up to Friday, but seemed to bounce back nicely in time for her party.
My mother-in-law had the BEST idea as a party activity. She passed out note cards with various questions for each of us to ask Nana about her life. The children enjoyed asking and hearing the answers to questions about Nana's childhood. We learned about Nana's favorite thing to play (dolls), her neighbor's little dog (Lou dog), that she did not have a television in her home (gasp!), and that she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up. We learned about how she met her husband (my hubby's granddaddy) on a blind date. P also asked a provocative question that was obviously burning in his psyche: "Has your hair always been that color?" (He was shocked to learn it was once dark brown.)
Nana has experienced a lot personally in her 92 years. The loss of her husband, her daughter, her brother and his family and many friends. She has overcome breast cancer (twice) and lung cancer. Yet, she has never lost her dignity or her generous spirit. Nana never fails to greet you with sincere kindness and warmth.
Nana still loves to read and occasionally do a little shopping on QVC. She is a snazzy dresser--even on the very rare occasion you see her in a gown it is a gorgeous patterned silk. She loves Jesus and she loves her family. We love her too. Happiest of birthdays, sweet Nana!

Happy Birthday, Nana! I want to be like you when I grow up! Precious, precious post and I LOVE the idea of the interview questions. I know this was a very special time for you all.
Happy Birthday to a lovely lady.
You are so lucky to have her. I would love to just sit at her feet and listen to her talk for a couple of hours. I miss my grandparents.
You are so lucky to have her. What a great gift to your children to be able to ask such great questions and learn about life way back when. We lot our GG Del two years ago and we all still miss her so much. God Bless Your Nana!
