R's Prayer

"De-ya God, please help my team win the firwst place twophy and please, God, make me stwong so I can hit the fiwst ball the coach pitches to me o-va the fence ev-e-wee time in those games.
And, God, pwease help me catch the ball ev-e-wee time it comes to me in my place and please, please, PLEASE let me catch a pop up and get a playa out one time.
In Jesus Name, Amen."

It may not be a prayer found anywhere in the Bible, but that is a competitive, baseball loving boy sharing his heart with his Lord.

When he finished I resisted my urge to correct him or lecture him on all the things that are more important than trophies and winning. Instead, I told R that God loved to hear what was on his heart.

"Does that mean He will do what I asked?"
"No, not always," I told him.
"But some of the time He will, Mom."
"Yep, sometimes He will," I agreed.
A big smile spread across his face and he closed his eyes for what I can only imagine will be some baseball-filled dreams.

What a precious boy! Can we arrange a marriage between him and my R? :)
