In keeping with that theme, I received the gift of an article from a friend of mine today. I ran into M. in a local store and she mentioned she had something for me. I was intrigued as she reached in her purse and pulled out the January issue of Christianity Today and pointed out this article by Leslie Leyland Fields. It is lengthy, give yourself 10 minutes or so to read it...but Wow! I went to the author's website to find out more about her book, Parenting is Your Highest Calling...And Eight Other Myths That Trap Us in Worry and Guilt.
After reading The Myths I ordered the book. I can tell from what I have researched about it there will definitely be more conversation to come on this subject.
In case you don't have time to check out the links, I'll conclude with this quote:
"We are not sovereign over our children--only God is. Children are not tomatoes to stake out or mules to train, nor are they numbers to plug into an equation. They are full human beings fearfully and wonderfully made. Parenting, like all tasks under the sun, in intended as an endeavor of love, risk, perseverance, and above all, faith. It is faith rather than formula, grace rather than guarantees, steadfastness rather than success that bridges the gap between our own parenting efforts, an what, by God's grace, our children grow up to become."

just wanted to actually say HI. i still read every night, but have gotten super lazy about commenting!
happy new year, jmom!
It was worth reading. I underlined this:
"We will parent imperfectly, our children will make their own choices, and God will mysteriously and wondrously use it all to advance his kingdom."
Thank you for the link.
This is so true and it eases my thoughts when my mother says you need to focus all of your time on Sam because he needs you the most when we discuss adding to our family. I plan on picking up a copy of that magazine to enjoy that article myself.
I would like to ask you speak to our women's group here in Centre, Alabama about your life experience we are focusing on heart health awareness month. I hope that you will be interested. Please call me @ 256-927-1312.
