We wised up and made the next play date indoors.
(I will be so sad when they outgrow dressing up.)
And today we had a fun time painting with Cabell. What a treat! And yet, when she started reading Shel Silverstein, they abandoned their projects in favor of snuggling close. Within a couple of minutes they had all made their way into her lap--where they stayed for almost an hour.I love the easy pace of Summer and the quality time it allows!!
P.S. Did you notice K's outfit in the top photo. I have entered the world of budding fashion sense...We are using the Summer to (hopefully) work out some kinks. I was so proud of myself this particular day because the children all went to Kindermusik camp in very 'creative' outfits. The control freak in me was twitching, but I kept my mouth shut. Imagine the chuckle I had at my own expense when they came home with keepsake photos from camp...taken that day.
What a fun lesson for me to realize that it honestly makes the memory much more enjoyable than if they had been cute and matching!

Working on letting the matchy thing go, too. Lucy (my child born in May of 2004) is enjoying some "freedom" this Summer as well. Trying to let her get it out of her system before she starts Kindergarten in August.....we'll see how that works out!
I went through the same thing. I am laughing because now my grown children will say,"Mom, why did you let us go out of the house looking like that". One time my 5 yr old son wanted to do his own hair for church. When we arrived at church his hair was still dripping from all the ? he had put on it. The saving grace was as we were coming up the stair to church he spotted the Pastor and yelled, "Pastor, Pastor, look i combed my own hair this morning." I was really grateful he was announcing he had groomed his hair, as i did not want to claim any credit.
Love the outfits! I remember when my son was this age he would wear his cowboy boots and coonskin hat with his swimsuit to the pool. I wanted to pin a note on him that said, "I did not dress this child!" (And, yes, we live in Texas!)
I bet you were about to have a cow. I'm just sitting here laughing at the thought of your face when you saw her camp picture. That is great!
Maybe - you could lay out some "choices" for her - and still let her choose what to wear using that method.
Or actually have some lessons on matching clothes.
Or since I am the mother of a 10 year old who would wear a polyester Jeff Gordon Jumpsuit everywhere day and night no matter the weather - just roll with it and hope that some day she learns better.
She learned to match shapes in school...
I love it!
