We Had a Ball!

My challenge with mixed gender triplets is finding a party theme each year that will be equally fun for my sons and my daughter. Additionally, I am a big fan of at home parties. I love making memories here that we can refer back to throughout the year--and the children love hosting their friends on their own turf.

We have had a candy themed party, a farm party and a cowboy/cowgirl party. This year we decided to take advantage of our flat front yard with a football/cheerleader party.

As much as I wish I could take credit for the awesome cakes, they were lovingly purchased, not homemade.

The chalk lined field, on the other hand, was very lovingly lined by Daddy.

My favorite memory from the day was the way we narrowly avoided a wash out. The hourly forecast showed a 30% chance of rain each hour leading up to the start of the party. At 10am (the scheduled start time) the chances increased to 75% and went back down to 20-30% each hour thereafter.

Friday night as I was tucking R in he said, "Mom, pwease pray and ask God to not let it rain on our party. Ask Him, pwease..." So, I did.

We had invited too many guests to comfortably move the party indoors (not to mention football inside with small children would have been harrowing.) In the hour leading up to the party we hurriedly cleaned out my nasty garage in case we had to serve food from there. I initially set the food up in there (albeit reluctantly.) My optimistic husband convinced me to move the food tables outside. There were several close calls with light rain, but nothing that 'dampened' our celebration.

After the party I remarked to R, "God kept the rain away just like you asked" and he looked at me like "Well, of course He did!" I love, love, love their precious faith.

An adorable high school football player and sweet, enthusiastic cheerleaders were celebrities to our 5 year old guests!
I think it was a hit! Now it is time to start brainstorming a theme for next year!

OK: I've been to and given a LOT of children's parties, but this is the cutest idea yet! What a gift to your children: something they'll always remember. Bet that new treehouse got broken in!

What a great party! I love that your husband was wearing a referee shirt. :) We're big fans of the home party, too. Luckily, Jeff does all of the brainstorming on those. He's got a gift for it...as you guys clearly do.

Looks like a great party! My daughter shares the same birthday as your kids, but she turned four. The football/cheerleaders idea is so cute for a coed party.

So,I have been checking our your site for months and months but never posted. I do not have multiples but do have a little girl with a May birthday. I love outdoor at home parties and opted out this year. Anyway, my suggestions for next year's theme are a Luau (fun to decorate for) or a circus! Enjoy those May babies!
