Daughters vs. Sons

We have to be out the door for school by 8am each morning. My children are generally very early risers so I have not used an alarm clock since they were born. Most mornings involve snuggling/wrestling in my bed while Daddy is getting ready. On very rare occasions we will get so comfy that everyone falls back asleep. This invariably leads to a hectic morning!

A couple of weeks ago this happened. As all Moms know this meant the priority became getting everyone else fed, groomed, lunches made, etc. Suddenly, I looked at the clock and then glanced at my greasy, pajama-clad self and knew I had to toss on sweats and a baseball cap if we were going to make it to school on time.

On the way out the door I quickly combed K's hair and was putting in a bow when she looked up at me and said, 'Mama, I think you should let me go and get yourself beautiful now."
"What do you mean, K?"
"You really need to brush your hair."
"You don't like it like this?"
"No. And, Mama, how 'bout some make-up too."
Oh, the face of things to come...

It must be something about cold mornings, because today we found ourselves in the same morning predicament. Once everyone else was dressed and ready, I hurriedly pulled on a sweatshirt and a baseball cap. Realizing I had not even washed my face I put on the biggest sunglasses I could find and we dashed out the door. As I was helping P into the car he took a double take. Uh-oh. Here it comes, I thought.
"Whoa! You look like a COOL Rock Star Mommy!"

Alas, the difference in sons and daughters. It starts early doesn't it?

Too funny. Yes, my 3 and half year old daughter reminds me quite frequently to put on make up. Uggh!
