Just Lunch

God is teaching me something huge right now. I can't wait to share about it, but honestly it has so many parts that I cannot seem to write a clear, concise post about it all. I keep getting all tangled up in my words.

While I work on that, I wanted to pass along something awesome that my friend Cabell (Sweeney's wife) wrote about their journey through cancer. I just cannot stop thinking about the beautiful simplicity of obedience.

In the sixth chapter of John, the account is told of Jesus feeding thousands of people. Jesus had been teaching all day and the people were getting really hungry. The crowd was so huge Philip commented that, “Eight months’ wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite.” Just then another disciple, Andrew presented a little boy with a sack lunch… just five small loaves of bread and two fish. The little boy gave his lunch to Jesus and waited. After Jesus thanked His Father for that little lunch He divided it among the thousands. “As much as they wanted…until “they had all had enough to eat.” And then, as if that wasn’t amazing enough, twelve baskets were gathered of leftovers. It was indeed a miracle. After it was all over I imagine many people praised the little boy for his faith and courage and trust in Jesus. I think his reaction must have been, “Don’t look at me, I just gave Him my lunch.”

So many have said they can’t believe the courage, faith and hope we have. Please don’t think we are some kind of spiritual heroes. Anything you admire or encourages you is from God, not us. We are just waking up and taking the next step with trust in God. God can do so much when we just offer Him what little we have; and trust Him to do the rest. So- don’t look at us we just gave Him our lunch. John 6: 1-13

I was reminded that if we are waiting for an Earth shattering call from God to do something huge we miss the daily opportunities to just humbly offer Him our lunch. It is through our 'meager' offerings that we are able to realize the glory is not for us anyway. Offer Him what you have and watch the miracles that only God can do.

Wow. Thank you.
I needed to be reminded about how beautiful 'simple obedience' is. Not just in the big things God calls us to do but the little things....and for me right now - that means letting go of something that my husband and I have been arguing over so that there is peace in our home. AND it will be a struggle as it involves christmas and family.
God is using your post to tell me to simply obey and be the wife he calls me to be in his word.....
thanks again.

What a great post! I recently found your blog and wanted to introduce myself.

I love how your friend commented that anything anyone has admired or been encouraged by is directly from God and not them. First of all I love how they are giving all the glory to Him. Second it makes me see recent moments in my life with new eyes. It is as if I can zoom out a little and see God standing there in each of these memories.

Thanks for a great and uplifting blog. I look forward to reading more.

Hi,
I found your blog awhile ago through another blog (don't remember which one) and I don't know I've ever left a comment on your blog, but I find so much inspiration in your faith and your blog and this post just really moved me and I wanted to say Thank You for sharing.

Hey! Our church has been praying for your friend. He is a friend of our Young Life leader. So neat to come here and know that we are lifting up the same people.

I was listening to a CD today and the teacher said miracles only happen when you are in need. There was a real need to feed the people and the miracle happened. Without needs there are no miracles. This was a wow moment for me.
