I hear you! I am at the computer to get away from my 3 little ones for a little bit...the day isn't even half over! Thank God I am going to visit my sister and my mom in a little bit. That always help...a change of scenery for the kids!
Some days you just have to be "that mom" - they'll live and still regard you with love when adults. :) It happens sometimes. You know, some of the "wise sayings" that have stuck with me were words uttered by my exasperated mom when she had obviously had enough. "Remember you're a LADY!" was one. Another was "I don't care if your friends are doing it; WE don't do that!" and my personal NON-favorite "Close your legs. I can see from here to Japan!" when wearing a dress.
It has it's place. Think about how God felt with those whiny, pesky, ungrateful Israelites after they left Egypt - man, "road trip" AND wrongdoing at every turn. Aren't you glad we don't have a "smite" button? :)
The fact that you recognize when you are being 'that mom' shows there is nothing to worry about. I know how you feel though. I dont want my kids to stress me out in public but I catch myself getting that way more often than not. In fact last week my verse to memorize was Phil 4:5...let your gentleness be evident to all. ouch. It will be better tomorrow...won't it?
You have already received so many helpful comments but I had to add that I had the SAME day yesterday! I was so discouraged after I put the children to bed (my husband had to work late.) I was really beating myself up, feeling that I had not had a gentle answer for them nor had I been the example of cheerfulness that I had chided them about. I began to read my Bible study book, A Woman After God's Own Heart. It was helpful! This morning in my prayer time I asked the Lord specifically for gentleness, kindness, self-control and smiles for my children.I have to say it has been a better day and I've been thanking Him all day for it, knowing very well it is not me that is responsible. ;) Their behavior hasn't changed much but God has been working in my heart. He is so gracious with us all.
I have read your blog for a little while now and appreciate your honesty and humility in your Mommy role. Your children are blessed and I bet a better day is not far off.
Can I just say that I'm so glad you posted this! It does my heart good to know that you have bad days! You're one of my heros (is inspiration a better word?) and I always get so down on myself when I have "one of those days". Thanks for being honest. Thanks for being real. Thanks for being human. And thank you, Lord, for grace!

Bless Your Heart!
Just said a little prayer for you and for the kids.

Every mom is "that" mom for at least a few minutes on at least a few days during these years.
And it really is ok. The kids survive it.
I seem to be that Mom a lot! I know that this season of "craziness" will eventually come to an end and have been told I will miss it!

I was 'that' Mom today (and yesterday). :( But, tomorrow is a new day. :)
Oh yes, I am "that mom" alot lately. Don't want to be though. What a blessing the lady at Barnes & Noble was.
