Dead Men Don't Sign

Yesterday as we were walking to the pool the children started jockeying for who was going to get which toy once we arrived. Unfortunately, we were in the parking lot when they all stopped to wrestle within my bag.

When I am trying to make a strong point, I don't really mince words, so I advised them that they needed to pay attention and get safely on the grass quickly. I mentioned that if they were hit by a car it wouldn't matter about the toys, as they'd be dead. >cringe<

"But, Mama, we could use our sign language if we are dead," K assured me.

"No, K, that's deaf."

Children often have a different idea of what something means than its true meaning. As I listen to my kids I pick up on things - they try to be so much like us adults - even if it means to call something by a wrong name.
