P is a Funny Kid

Yesterday was rainy, overcast and in the high 50s, so we did not attempt the pool or the beach. Instead we shopped and visited the Gulfarium, where the children watched dolphins and seals perform. It was a fun day, despite the weather.

Today was perfect. The skies were clear and blue and the temperature went up to 68 degrees. We made up for lost time outdoors.

One of my favorite memories so far was made yesterday thanks to my new ipod. Because I am terribly un-hip, I may have one of the most random playlists in the country. My CD purchases in the last four years have only included praise music or children's music (Laurie Berkner Band, Kindermusik, Kids Praise, Cedarmont Kids, etc.) In preparation for our long car trip the week, I went through the eclectic CD collection that has resulted from my marriage. While many of the CDs were cool back in the day, they are definitely dated now (the Stealing Home soundtrack, anyone?) Since they were all I have, I uploaded them anyway. The result is Gin Blossoms meets Jennifer Knapp, meets the Phantom of the Opera, meets Spice Girls. You get the picture.

On the way to the beach Saturday the children were introduced to the performances of amazing one hit wonders and have decided the Baja Men (Who Let the Dogs Out) and the Buggles (Video Killed the Radio Star) are now among their favorites. Every single time we get in the car to go somewhere this week they request these two songs. So, it really should not have come as any surprise that as we were watching the dolphins perform yesterday P started LOUDLY singing, "Who Let the Dogs Out? Who? Who? Who!" There was a 13 year old boy next to us whose reaction was priceless. His astonished reaction was even funnier than P's performance--which is saying a lot!

This is my same funny child whose favorite thing of the day for the last two evenings has been "jumpin' on da bed." (It is a mattress on the floor.) He has even asked to come indoors from the playground to jump on the bed! When I have asked him why that was so fun when we have tried so many other things, his reply was sincere. "But, Mommy, you won't let me do it at home."

Oh, The Stealing Home soundtrack. Loved it. And now I'm going to download it.

I think we may need some video of P singing "Who Let the Dogs out?"

If you make it to the Zoo in Gulf Breeze, let me know - I'm in Navarre and I'd love to meet you all. I've been "lurking" for a while, and I so enjoy living vicariously through you. My kids are now 14, 15, 17, and 18 so it was kind of like triplets! Thanks for sharing.

Now he just needs Sadie to teach him the UGA fight song and they'd be ready to cheer for the bulldogs!

My kids really enjoy going to that Gulfarium as well. I, personally, think it could use a little updating..but hey, what to do on a rainy day at the beach?

Have you been to Dewey Destin or Callahan's to eat? My Dad has a place in Destin so we go every year..these are the "locals" favorites. *But a warning on Dewey Destin: extremely casual (like a bikini would work!), outdoors, on the bay..like a little trailer. I know, you are thinking, "What!?", but I promise they have the best fried shrimp ever!
