Who Am I?

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I attended an event where one of the members of Casting Crowns led the worship music. As he sang this song, that I have heard countless times, the lyrics really sunk in for the first time. I intended to post them several days ago and got busy and forgot.

My last couple of days have been very heavy as I have spent hours at the children's home trying to help two different 18 year old girls who have 'aged out' of our programs, but are still very much in need of help. As my colleagues and I have labored over what these girls need in order to stand a chance at making it, I have been brought back to the reality of who we are and our desperate need for the hope of a Savior.

This world is full of hurt. We serve a divine Healer. I challenge you to read these words and remember you were bought with a price.

Who Am I

by Casting Crowns

album: Casting Crowns (2003)

Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name
Would care to feel my hurt
Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star
Would choose to light the way
For my ever wandering heart

Not because of who I am
But because of what You've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who You are

I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
Vapor in the wind
Still You hear me when I'm calling
Lord, You catch me when I'm falling
And You've told me who I am
I am Yours, I am Yours

Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love and watch me rise again
Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea
Would call out through the rain
And calm the storm in me

Not because of who I am
But because of what You've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who You are

I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
Vapor in the wind
Still You hear me when I'm calling
Lord, You catch me when I'm falling
And You've told me who I am
I am Yours

Not because of who I am
But because of what You've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who You are

I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
Vapor in the wind
Still You hear me when I'm calling
Lord, You catch me when I'm falling
And You've told me who I am
I am Yours

I am Yours
Whom shall I fear
Whom shall I fear
'Cause I am Yours
I am Yours

If you feel so led, please pray for hurting, lost and lonely folks that need to know this. Where would we be without the hope we have?

J,
I love that song too - it is so poignant, and I tear up everytime I hear it or play it. Not because of who I am but because of what You've done, not because of what I've done but because of who You are... love, love, love it. Sums up the gospel perfectly.

I don't know where I would be without my hope in God. My hope is built on nothing less. (to quote my favorite hymn)

You know, I've heard this song a million times; sing along with it in the car, know all the words...but I never really have stopped to really think about and understand them. It's a very powerful song. Makes me think of another song that always gives me chills...
"Never has there been and never again will there be another you. Fashioned by God's hand and perfectly planned to be just who you are. And what He's been creating, since the first beat of your heart, is a living breathing priceless work of art..."

I love that song every time I hear it. And, yes. I will pray for those who are lost and lonely. That could have easily been me.

Blessings~

This verse reflects my life.....as I am in the "winter" of my life.

"I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
Vapor in the wind
Still You hear me when I'm calling
Lord, You catch me when I'm falling
And You've told me who I am
I am Yours, I am Yours"

I reflected in my blogging this morning about who we are in Christ. Even tho we struggle, for those of us who belong to the Lord, God sees us thro Him as perfect!! My, my what an amazing thought!!

I will pray for you as you work with these kiddos who are too old to stay in the system. That is a scary time for them. As a foster mom to many, I kept my eighteen year olds until they were able to support themselves by getting some post high school training. By nineteen or twenty they were usually able to get on with independent living, They are still part of our extended family, even tho the last one is 38!!

Bless you in your work with the children in the childrens' home. It is hard, but i believe having a ministry in the lives of children is one of the most rewarding avenues we can take.

Just wanted to say that last weekend I went to a Casting Crowns concert with my family.

If you get the chance you should go as well. It is far more like a worship service than just simply entertainment.

This song is just one of many that they sing that is absolutely awe-inspiring.

When something helps you to see God , as He IS not just as you want him to be, and helps you to see yourself as He sees you..........it can only be good.

This group does that.
