In the last couple of days I've overheard some comments I needed to write down.
Saturday, K was running up and down the driveway as fast as her legs would carry her. After a few minutes she said, "Mama! I am so tired. My legs have run out of runnin'."
This morning, K picked up a toy man and said "What does man start with?"
When I told her 'm' she started singing the alphabet. She got all the way to the end and scrunched up her face saying, "I can't find the M in the ABCs. "
I was packing lunches and only partially listening to her first attempt, so I encouraged her to try again.
Just as I suspected..."G H I J K el-em-in-oh P"
She was astonished. "You found the M in my ABCs!"
Last week R was reprimanded at school for being too rough with his siblings. At home I asked him why he was tackling his brother and laying on him while he screamed. His response?
"But, Mama, I am a baseball playa and it was a home run. I weely had to be safe."
Oh, that explains it.
P is my quiet reflective little guy, but his comment Saturday stunned me. From the backseat I hear his little voice, out of the blue. "God, you are holy."
"What did you say, doodle?"
"God is holy."
He was resolute and stated it as a fact. There was no hint of a question mark at the end. He didn't even ask me what it meant.
"Do you know what holy means, buddy?"
This led to a neat little conversation in 3 year old terms. Several times that afternoon he stopped what he was doing, looked up to the sky and said, "God, you are holy." K even repeated him a few times.
I cannot tell you what that did to my heart. Proof again that praise music in the car (This Passion CD is my current favorite) is being heard by little ears.
I am constantly reminded that they are listening to EVERYTHING (good and bad) in their environment, processing it and it is taking root in their hearts. Oh, how we must be on our toes!!

I have some samples of that Passion cd playing on the computer right now. It is really good. And you are so right about our little ones picking up the good and bad that they hear. The oldest comes home from school singing hymns that he is learning and the younger ones arepicking it up too. Nothing like hearing "Trust and Obey" or "Seek Ye First" while they are doing their chores. And each day I hear them say quirky things that we say daily making me be ever more cautious as to what is said in their presence.
That is very conficting and I will remember that when we have kids. I usually only listen to Christian music anyway - but it will become so important when I realize they take note of EVERYTHING they hear. Something tells me my TV viewing will come under conviction as well.
Out of the mouths of babes...
That last paragraph was powerful...taking root can be a scary thing huh?! May our "conversations be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may answer to anyone." Colossians 4:6
Our kids are just so sweet aren't they?! Have a good day.
Blessings~
Love that last paragraph. I posted something along those same lines today. I really feel like we are given one chance to help create a pure heart! We have to pour Jesus into them every chance we get! All part of the Train up a child.....
Thanks for this post!
blessings,
