It's my blog & I'll reminisce if I want to...

The whole baby story has been covered in previous posts. (Infertility, Bedrest, Delivery, Complications, The ICU & Beyond) But, as I was reminiscing today I came across these photos taken shortly after the children were born. The babies weighed 2lbs 6oz (P), 2lbs 12oz (K) and 3lbs3 oz (R).

Have I ever mentioned I gained 70lbs in 31 weeks of pregnancy? In the last week of my pregnancy, I gained a pound and a half A DAY! The only positive outcome of my heart failure was that the Lasix made me lose 35 lbs in 3 weeks. The other 35 had to be lost the good old fashioned way!

The 3 individual pictures below are now framed in my bedroom. The quality is poor, because we could not use a flash in the NICU, but these were the photos I had of the babies when I was in the ICU and later when I was quarantined and unable to visit the nursery. I fell in love with these pictures during those first difficult days. They were pinned on a bulletin board at the foot of my bed as reminders of what this had all been for and all that I had to look forward to. Reality has not been a disappointment. Truly, you have come a LONG way, babies!

Firstborn, K, was only 13 1/2 inches long.

Miraculously, R was the only baby to require the ventilator and it was only for 2 hours of room air.

P was a peanut, but those eyes have always been big and expressive!

I will remember the deeds of the LORD; Yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds. Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God? You are the God who performs miracles; Psalm 77:11-14a

Jen, your week of 'remembering' has been so good for this tired ol' Mama. It's been a rough few weeks around here, with me feeling irritable and overwhelmed.

Your posts have been extra sweet for me, pulling me back into that place of cherishing those I am surrounded with, and recongizing once again the lightening speed with which it's all passing me by.

My family thanks you for that! :-)

(Can't wait to see b-day pictures!!! There better be about 50 of 'em posted to satisfy your readers! :-))

Such cute pictures...hope the kiddos have a great birthday celebration.
Just thought I would mention that I am no longer finding the link to Randi and Todd's blog on your blog. Am I somehow overlooking it?

I just love your blog. It has the sweetest spirit. I can really sense that you are a beautiful woman and very humble.

Thanks for sharing your life with all of us. You inspire me as a Mom so much. While my husband is not a doctor, he does have a job that requires very long hours and most weekends. It was not supposed to be this way when we moved from Dallas to Austin but things did not go my way. So reading all of what you write sure helps me.

Thanks for being real.

What a precious post. You keep on reminiscing if you want. I have thoroughly enjoyed this week with you and thank God, not only for sparing each of your precious sweeties, but also keeping you alive and strong enough to share each of these tender moments with them.

Thank you for opening up the history "book" and letting us all peek inside with you.

Have a wonderful party tomorrow, and we'll look forward to the photos commemorating Kate, Ryland , and Parker's third special b-day!

Oh Jen!! How can it be 3 years ago that those 3 tiny angels entered this world! I remember those bibs lined up next to them in the NICU, and proud Daddy Ryland showing off his miracles to us. I thank the Lord for all of His mercies during that time! Have a wonderful day with the kiddos. Give them all big hugs and kisses from the Sheley clan! We love you guys!

Love-
Suzanne

p.s. Aren't you impressed that I finally figured out how to leave a comment!!

My name is Heidi and I have been lurking on your blog for a little while. I found your blog from Super Duper Jack's.

I too had infertility and bedrest and delivery complications with my first child, she was born 9-11-04.

Thank you for sharing your story, it is nice to know others who have had similiar experiences. I wish your babies a Very Happy Birthday.
