One of the most memorable things about our trip was the exposure to wildlife. Watching a dozen seal feed on the plentiful fish during shifts in the tide never got old.
Bald eagle sightings were also thrilling! There is a pair of bald eagles (dubbed Fred & Wilma) who live on the small island adjacent to camp. When we took a small boat out fishing, they followed us hoping we might share some of our catch. When it took longer than usual for us to catch anything they started impatiently squawking at us before eventually soaring off to find their own supper.
Early one morning we watched an adolescent deer swim across the inlet and back. He was quite the swimmer! And one afternoon, while out in a boat, I spotted this little guy. Although we never saw her, I am sure his mama spotted us too!
We spent countless hours exploring and investigating creatures unique to the area. P became quite the fan of finding live snakes (which I ABHOR!!!) and K loved the snail and gigantic slugs.
It is hard to gauge their size in this picture, because they are balled up defensively...but this is one of the FIVE she is holding when we first discovered it!
There were crazy tides every day which left much room for exploring the rocky shores at low tide. I have never seen such an abundance of crabs. It made for a full afternoon of fun. The starfish, however, stole the show...
Can you believe how fearless she is?
Speaking of fearless, there were other new experiences to be enjoyed...
and nighttime (especially rock star night) brought out a unique kind of wild life!
My husband and I were talking this morning about how we hope when the inevitable temptations of life come...promising our children that there is 'more life' to be found, dabbling in sin outside of the faith...trips like these will remind them of the FULLNESS of life that can be experienced without all the junk that comes with substances, promiscuity or other futile pursuits.
That is our hope and prayer.
I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. John 10:10 The Message
