Anybody Been to Vancouver?

We are knee deep in plans for a grand family adventure to British Columbia later this Summer. My husband will be serving as Camp Doc at Young Life's Malibu Club and the rest of us get to accompany him.

We are thrilled, but getting there is going to be quite a production....nine hours of flying to get to Vancouver. We will then drive and hour, ride a ferry for 45 minutes with our rental car, then drive 30-45 minutes more before boarding a 3 hour boat ride to our destination. Have we lost our marbles or what???

To make it a little easier, we are planning to stay a night in Vancouver on either side. So, wise and experienced Internet friends, anyone have any experience with Vancouver with children? I have done some google searches and found several fun options--but would love some words of real experience.

Oh, my goodness! Our son turned down a work crew opportunity at Malibu for this summer. I don't know what he was thinking! It looks gorgeous!! It wasn't his first choice, but it sure would be mine. :-) He will go to another phenomenal camp and is very excited. I can't wait to see your pictures and hear all about it.

yeah! yeah! Thank you for posting this. Hubby and I are headed to Vancouver later this summer just to vacation. I'd love to hear any hotel/restaurant recommendations, areas to avoid, etc. that your readers have!

You are in for some of the most gorgeous scenery in the world! What a wonderful time for all of you. From what I hear the zip line is the adventure to go on.

Bear with me with a personal story from Malibu. Several years ago, my grandson went for a week to Malibu. He is in a wheel chair and we were somewhat concerned, but he was so excited we couldn't tell him "no".

His favorite thing was the zip line. I asked him how he managed it and he told me that the captain of the football team carried him to all of the places his wheel chair wouldn't take him--all week!!

Wasn't that football player a special young man...and a beautiful example of a believer!

Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to!

You absolutely must get to Stanley Park...it is one of the best parks in the world. We spent almost a full day exploring the park. Amazing scenery, totem poles, a train, starfish scattered about the beach, and much much more. Just breathtaking.

Enjoy your trip!

I forgot to mention that when we went my oldest (and at the time only) was just shy of 3. Stanley park held his interest for the entire day. He loved exploring, climbing, the play structures, the natural climbing areas, etc. The adults had a wonderful time as well.

We were there in mid June and wore tennis shoes, jeans, short sleeves, and a light jacket. The weather was so comfortable for outdoor activities.

I would agree Stanley Park is a wonderful place to take kids. There used to be an aquarium there not sure if it is still there. I live in Washington so have been to Vancouver many times. But it has been years since I was there with kids. Beautiful scenery!

Vancouver aquarium, science world, Stanley park, Granville island... Those are the main things!

Expect rain, even in the summer! And it's totally worth it to reserve a spot on the ferry to the island, otherwise you never know how long you'll be waiting for.

Hi! My hubby and I just went to Vancouver 3 weeks ago for a conference! We have 3 kiddos and although they didn't go with us, we kept saying, "Oh, they would LOVE this and that!" Sooo, a must visit is Granville Island---a cool kids playground area and KidStation is there and a huge farmer's market--so fun to peruse! Also, the Sandbar restaurant is there and it was DELICIOUS!!!! I agree with those who mentioned Stanley Park--lots to do (rent bikes, hike, etc.) but we visited the Aquarium. Might not compare to the one in Atlanta, but you will see beluga whales (something you won't see down south) and we enjoyed that! The city is easily walkable too--but there's a great bus system or Trolley company tour bus if you prefer that!
