P and I have a silly little inside joke related to his love of all things Mario Brothers. (If you don't play the games this won't make much sense.)
I call him a variation of his name attached to the -igi ending of Luigi. "Hey, P---igi."
In return he calls me Mom-mio (like Mario). It never fails to illicit a huge grin and guttural giggles. He loves it that I am entering his world.
Tonight we have had the pleasure of entertaining overnight guests from out of town. As we were heading up the stairs to bed I started our little game.
"It's me, Mom-mio."
This time, instead of a big grin he shot a look of horror at me.
"Mom! Don't say that!" he whispered.
"Why?" I inquired. I was clearly slow to accept what was going on.
"Shh. I don't want the other kids to hear that!" (He was referring to our friends from out of town.)
And just like that, I entered the world of being an embarrassing Mom, instead of a fun one.
I know it was just a moment and pray there will be few of them until at least middle school...but oh, how it seared my Mama heart.
This is a first I was not ready for!

I'm giggling, cause I get called "Mom-io" all the time! ha-ha-ha...I'm sure you are one COOL mom!!!!
Well, you are more lucky than me. My Belle is only 3 and I've embarrassed her a few times already. The best moment- I changed into a more 'comfortable' outfit to head to Bible Study. Belle asked "Mommy, why are you wearing that? None of your friends will like it...." So, I'm already being judged on my mom fashion.
Oh that is CUTE! I just love when other moms do this too (and actually share it). My son who is 7 asked and asked and asked for me to eat lunch with him at school. So I show up and he barely talks to me! But he was so glad I went.
I have a frown. I would have shed a tear. :(
