Welcome, October! You are undoubtedly my favorite month of the year. You faithfully bring crisp Fall weather under clear blue skies. You are highlighted by the appearance of acorns and framed by leaves floating and tumbling freely, only to come to rest on the ground where they will crunch gently under feet.
You bring apples to life, the bright and warm colors of autumn foliage, squash and pumpkins. Football gets serious. I get to break out the Crockpot again. Fall festivals abound. After a long, hot Summer that forced us to find refuge indoors ,we now prop open doors and windows to welcome your relief. The air leaves me no choice but to inhale deeply. I find myself abandoning efficiency in favor of taking unrushed strolls to the mailbox, to take out the garbage, any excuse to revel in the perfect temperatures.
I am an experience lover. This month does not disappoint: Fall festivals, Halloween, Fall break, my kids' first Bama game...
Things are not perfect, but they are very good. My family is healthy. My marriage is strong. I love and am loved. Laughter abounds.
I know seasons of life bring different things--literally and figuratively. This one is good--very, very good--I am not going to question it, over examine it, or fritter it away worrying about what the next season will bring. I am going to praise God for it and revel in it.

October has always been my favorite. I am in love with Autumn, and I'm so lucky this year because my husband built us a lovely new patio and firepit to snuggle by during the chilly evenings. Also, turning the calendar page this year was even sweeter; we get to fly to San Diego to see our son graduate from Marine boot camp. Thirteen weeks without seeing his face....this mama is so ready.
And some even better news - somewhere out there is a Navy chaplain who shined a light through the dirt and grime of boot camp and reached my son's heart with the love of Christ - and my son was baptized last week during worship services. If this is the reason the Lord lead us down this path - what a beautiful reason. Don't you think?
Amen, HW! I haven't checked in over at your place in a couple of weeks, so I missed that news. What an incredible outcome. Worth those 13 weeks, huh? Who knew your extra prayers for him were about the spiritual battle in addition to the physical/mental/emotional one? Amazing. Thanks so much for sharing!
Couldn't agree with you more! The Lord is gracious to give us seasons -- the lack of humidity alone is cause for celebration. Enjoy reading your blog!
so well said, I'm printing a (slightly edited) version for my bulletin board this month!
Amen and Amen! :-)
Fall is fabulous! We took our girls to their second Bama game this past weekend. I was a little nervous given that it was against Florida and I know how rowdy SEC rivalries can be, but they had a blast. We sat around some great fans who were mindful of my little one's ears. It was a great time. Hope you guys have a great time too!
