The Tongue

I am a fighter.

I believe in grace and mercy, but injustice and cruelty really fire me up. I am a sucker for the underdog. Maybe that's why this video effected me so much.

Ivey's Mom linked to this a few days ago and I watched it with great emotion. (There is some vulgarity--don't watch with little ones.)

What power we have in our tongues...to hurt, to heal, to attack and to defend.

“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.” (Psalm 141:3)

Yet, it seems it is not enough to simply watch our own speech and avoid offense. Sometimes we must not be quiet, we must speak up. Let's show people they are important enough to be spoken for!

As some of these bystanders chose to 'mind their own business,' I was reminded of the good Samaritan. He did not just shake his head at the plight of the injured man on the side of the road. He did not turn away and pretend he didn't see anything. No, he rolled up his sleeves and got involved.  That is true love.

If we could really learn to love our neighbor this world would be a very different place.

The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' Matthew 25:40

Thanks for posting this video.
My uncle is handicapped so I look at the issue from a unique view. I just knew him as my uncle. I could never understand why people would be mean to him.
As I got older and more cynical I understood there are mean people in the world.
But, I still just know him as my uncle.

Thank you for posting this! I was glad to see those who stood up for him! May God help me! I love reading your blog!

There is no way I would have been able to mind my own business with something like that. I was so glad to see the people who stepped in to defend the workers.

Jennifer-
Thanks for re-posting this. You know how much it means to be in this battle. I hope that it will make a difference. It's funny you think you would easily stand up and defend someone in these situations, but it is much much harder when it happens. Some of our friends use the word 'retard' often and in front of Ivey. It is a very maddening situation to be in.

What a wonderful reminder of how we should remember that we are all children of God and respond accordingly.

It seems like the Lord is inundating me with reminders to Love my Neighbor! I passed on this video to my Mother in Law who works for a non profit that helps people with special needs. Tears were literally streaming down my face (and I read your blog at work). This reminds me of when you did take action for that little girl who's Mother was abusing her. I pray God gives me the courage to act when I need to. You have such encouraging words...Thank you.
