Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Tomorrow is my dear husband's 39th birthday. I had this great idea to write 39 things about him...then I realized I did that last year. :-)

So, I thought instead about what I appreciated most about him in his 38th year.

He continues to gain my respect as a man who loves well. He loves his God with his whole heart. He has a godly integrity that challenges me to never compromise.

He loves his wife well. I never, ever doubt his love and care for me. His patience with and tenderness towards me is truly a picture of God's love that I have never remotely experienced in any other relationship in my life. Additionally, he makes me laugh and challenges me intellectually--what more could I ask for?

He loves his daughter well.

That look between them? My heart is in a puddle.

He invests in his sons--modeling manhood for them in a consistent, strong and caring way.(Don't worry. It is a cap gun!)

And the matching sport coats? Sweetness!

This year I have also gained a new perspective of him as a physician as I have witnessed his care for Sweeney as patient and friend. The reality that this is what he does all day every day (and every 5th night) with people in crisis has earned even more of my respect.

The man I love is, obviously, not perfect. He doesn't profess to be. He is, however, a person who seems to be right in the center of his spiritual gifts and is committed to living a life of service to God. He has great grace for my weakness--and I for his. Isn't that what marriage is about? I believe strongly that my job as his partner is to be his biggest cheerleader and supporter. I am happy to oblige. You make it easy, honey!

I love you and am so thankful for your life.

Happy birthday!

this post made me cry. and TRUST ME--i am NOT a cryer (crier?). but i need you to know that physicians like your husband are few-&-far-between. as a medical student, i've followed too many sour, bitter, unmotivated physicians who have been drained time-and-again by their patients. and trust me when i say that he is a gem--to Jesus, to his family, & to academia. any medical student able to learn from such a man of God is a lucky one. God has strategically placed many doctors with hearts commited to Jesus in my path (including surgeons)--& it never ceases to amaze me that the very hands that teach, that suture, that cut belong the The Healing Hands that were broken.

...thanks for sharing. and remind him of his medical gifts--straight from the Ultimate Healer.

Happy birthday to your hubby. And, though I like all of the photos, the one with him and K is wonderful.
