Jesse Tree

For the last few years, we have used a Jesse tree for Advent devotions. This link has a great explanation, but essentially it is a great Christmas tradition that emphasizes the reason for the season. For those of you who are crafty, the sky is the limit on how creative you can get on ornament design. For non-crafty Moms like me click here for free downloadable ornaments.

It snuck up on me this year, so we are printing these on cardstock and cutting them out this afternoon! The devotions are scheduled to start today on some sites and tomorrow on others to coincide with Advent. Traditionally, I have used this one with a little ad libbing to make it understandable for my people. (If you prefer to start December 1st, here is another link to devotions.)

If you do an Internet search you will find other templates to color your own or make them out of felt. There are also sites where you can purchase kits. (I prefer free!) If you have other links, please add them in the comments.

This is a meaningful tradition for our family. I hope it proves to be for yours as well.

Ours are due to start on December 1. I have my rather bare tree sitting in wait. What we did was to have a Jesse Tree Project at church. 19 families pulled together and made the 25 required ornaments. We had an ornament exchange and whew! They are lovely. We have a basket of our ornaments sitting next to our tree, along with our Jesse Tree book.

My K- is so excited!

I discovered the Jesse Tree concept for the first time last year. I found a beautiful devotional on another blog I read but it was mid-December til I found it and couldn't get the ornaments together in time. Thanks for the ornament link b/c I'm behind the 8 ball on the ornaments again this year! Not anymore though! At least I have the tree in place!
