Don't forget the simple joys of life. I mentioned the popcorn catching R and I enjoyed during his sick day yesterday. It surprised me how much fun we had doing something so simple. I feel silly when I attempt the explain it, but we had a moment. He learned something new (and a little rebellious) and I got a chance to be a 'cool Mom' in my little boy's eyes.
Along those same lines, while driving to school one morning last week I spontaneously rolled all the windows of the car down. (My motivation was to clear out the musty smell from rain getting in my car the night before.) The children were not sure what to think. As we traveled down familiar roads in an unfamiliar way the crisp morning air blew through the car, mussing up freshly combed hair and blowing any morning grumpiness right out. The laughter and squeals were equivalent to an amusement park ride...It truly made my day. And it was free and spontaneous.
This afternoon we got caught in a torrential downpour on the way home from school. Because my garage is too full of bikes and sports equipment to actually park in, we were drenched as we attempted to get inside the house. Rather than fight it and let it make us all grumpy, we gave in and played in the rain.
Joyfully
Enthusiastically
Life dealt my children an inconvenience and they found a way to revel in it.
I am a big fan of outings and constructive activities for my children...but may we never forget that the sweetest moments are often the simplest rather than the ones we manufacture.

Love the pictures! The kids I sit for got caught in the same downpour walking home from the bus stop~they just had to stay out and play after that. Love your blog!
Precious memories! We too attempted playing in the rain this afternoon only to be ended abruptly by thunder. Fortunately, we continued the playing in mommy and daddy's shower...probably something I'll regret when they start asking everyday.

ABB- Way more geek than cool here. I am just trying to learn to let go and say yes a bit more to make up for all the times I have to say no. Part of the reason they enjoy when I 'let go' is because they are so surprised by it. It feels so rebellious! :-)

This is why I love teaching children: look at those eyes! So full of joy. (PS: those words "crisp morning air"? They made me a little envious, as we are still in the 90s in central Texas...)

Alison- Thanks! I use a Nikon d70s that is about 6 years old. I do everything on autofocus...the quality of the pictures is absolutely the camera, not the photographer!
