A Little Comic Relief

THANK YOU ALL for the kind thoughts and prayers for my inlaws. They made great progress today with the contractors and service people. As I have finally looked at the news, I am very aware it could have been much, much worse.

Now for a funny...

Whereas I tend to react quickly (read: impulsively) and figure out the plan as I go, my husband is more thoughtful in his preparation. Because he is male, it always seems to be about having the right equipment. Even in a crisis situation Monday night, we had to make emergency stops at Home Depot and Advanced Auto Parts in route to the Scotts. Truly, his foresight to take batteries and headlamps was awesome. Both proved to be necessities.

There was, however, one purchase which has not yet proven its worth. This afternoon, my neighbor Emmy came over to chat. As she walked in my backdoor she noticed this beauty charging on my counter.

I am quite certain you cannot appreciate its size from this shot, so I had P hold it so you could appreciate THE LARGEST FLASHLIGHT KNOWN TO MAN.
It literally has a ghostbuster-type chest and shoulder strap. I tried to have P wear it that way to demonstrate, but it tipped him over.

Emmy and I giggled about the fact that she would be seeing it again in a blog post now that enough time had passed to have a sense of humor about some of the week's events. As she was walking down my driveway she paused and called over her shoulder, "Make sure you get a picture of the box for your post!'
What?
Then I noticed it sitting on top of the trash can..."20 million plus candle power spotlight." How exactly do you think they tested that claim?

I will never fear a power outage again. Frankly, my whole block is probably safe.

I am still pondering other creative uses of this big beauty, but I think the kids and I can do some serious shadow plays!

I actually laughed out loud, very loud. Oh how funny. But just think, your husband is now covered in case he needs to do an emergency surgery and he has no light. Okay, so electricity is needed for everything else with the surgery, but nevermind-- he'll be able to see!

I had no idea how big it was until you had P hold it.

I'm still laughing. It is one of those purchases that I swear that salespeople talk about when you leave. "Can you imagine that honkin' flashlight they bought? Geeze Louise? What on earth are they trying to do? Are they sending Morris Code to the Space Shuttle while it is in space?"

Hee! Hee!

Couldn't help but laugh at your post, and the comment above cracked me up! Wonder if a man or woman created that? What's your guess?

One of my friends in college had this flashlight. It light up the night, that's for sure - so much we got curious. He pointed it at the moon. Yep. The moon appeared brighter to us, when that flashlight was pointed at it.

We boggled at the power of that flashlight.

Thanks for the laugh! That light is enormous! You are definitely set if the power goes out.

Praying for your in-laws! Keep us posted.

Probably with the right placement of some mirrors it could light up your whole house!

We've been out of town and really thought the news has made the flood sound worse than it really was. Sad to see from your pics that it was right! I will definitley keep the Scotts in my prayers....as for the flashlight, that is hysterical. How did I know P would be the one to model it?? Maybe you can use it in conjunction with some sort of Christmas light display!

I'm with Bailey - I think maybe it could be seen from space! Not that you'd be able to test that theory either!

Glad to hear your in-laws on the road to recovery.
