Safe in His Arms

These are the final pictures from our trip to Maine, I think.

Our last 'full day' involved a 30 minute boat ride to a charming, historic coastal town called Castine. Becoming a mother has made me a true Nervous Nellie--especially around water. You can, therefore, imagine my anxiety as TEN of us, including 6 children, boarded a motor boat for our journey.

I am, however, married to a man I've dubbed 'Safety Scott,' so I trusted his judgment and practiced some deep breathing as we set off through the waves.

When schooners like this sail past you, it is a pretty sure sign you are no longer in a North Georgia lake.

We had a fun bay-side lunch before doing a little exploring around the town.

As we were exploring Castine, the weather seemed to shift and it was decided that we needed to try to get back to Deer Isle before the storm rolled in. Everyone inhaled the ice cream we had promised--and we were off.
Clouds rolled in. The air pressure changed. The winds picked up...and the waters grew very choppy and unpredictable. I am sure that the waves and rough waters we were experiencing were probably not that big of a deal to experienced sea-men...but I was a nervous wreck.

Just as I thought I might seriously start crying I realized all three of my children were asleep. (Below is a photo of R & K asleep in my husband's lap...P was in mine.)
While I was frightened to the point of tears, my children were peacefully sleeping in the protection their father's arms. Isn't it amazing what trust in the one who holds us can do for our sense of well-being?

It is a metaphor I hope I will not soon forget.

Hi.

Great pictures...and I love your profile pic! Really cute.

I think you were probably worried beyond reason. Not that I blame you. The ocean can be a terrifying thing and cause an adrenaline rush. And given your health history, it's even more understandable.

I was on a dinghy that nearly capsized myself. The storm was just short of a small hurricane. So it was really scary! Came up out of nowhere. But I got some great paintings out of that experience. So it was worht it to me.

Glad you had a good time while you were here in Maine.
