Put Down the Phone

Today I watched something that has led me to finally commit to put the phone down when I am driving. I am not proud of the fact that I haven't done so before now, but I have made excuses. I have rationalized that I am cautious. I have valued 'efficiency' over being careful and responsible. I have believed that it won't happen to me...but what if it did?

I am reminded of my R's favorite rebuttal when I ask him not to do something dangerous. "Nothing is going to happen. I will be careful.I promise."

Isn't that what we always think?

Interestingly, a longer clip from CNN made a point of calling most car collisions "unintended consequences" rather than accidents, because the word accident implied fate as opposed to poor choices.

This video is graphic, but very effective.

Please, if you text or chat on your phone while driving, take the 4 minutes to watch this.

Some things are MUCH more important that efficiency.

And if you know me in real life, forgive me that I am about to become much more difficult to reach.

I think everyone should post this all over the internet!!! To many people try and multi-task and end up injured or have injured or killed someone else. I will try and post that on my blog if I get the chance.

I have been guilty many, many times of texting while driving. My husband showed me this the other day, and since then we have posted it all over Facebook. I can honestly say that I won't be texting again while behind the wheel.

I am not an in car phone user... when I was 18 weeks pregnant with our daughter a man on his phone lost control of his van and ran into our car which was parked... and I was standing behind.

A friend of mines 19 year old son died Sunday in a car crash while texting. I too ffel like it should not have came down to this to make me stop. Having a 15 year old soon to be driving, really brought this close to home.

I saw this on Facebook a couple of days ago and couldn't get it out of my head the rest of the day. Even though it is staged, I was thinking about those girls as if it really happened. It is powerful and I believe should be shown at every High School in the country-no world.

This was heartwrenching and difficult to watch but is a sober reminder the danger of texting while driving. I'll be sending this link to my four children to watch as well as the superintendent of my kids high school...I think every single teenager (adult, too) should watch this. Thanks for posting it.

I, too, saw this on Facebook a couple of days ago. I'm not skilled enough to text while I'm driving. I actually have a hard time texting while I'm sitting down. Anywho, I was truly convicted though, that it's not just about texting. For me it is talking on my phone while driving. I have committed to not make any phone calls while I'm behind the wheel. Thanks for putting this out there so many others can get the same wake up call.
