Maine: Day One

Tuesday we departed for our trip to visit my husband's sister, A, and her family. It is quite the trek, especially since there is no longer a non-stop flight to Bangor. It takes us over an hour to get to the airport from our home, 2 flights to get to Bangor and then another 90 minute drive to our final destination in Deer Isle.
Once we arrive, the quality time, the views, the food, the family and the total departure from our normal life experience make it completely worthwhile.
This picture was taken at our dinner stop the first evening. Maine has many 'take outs' on the roadside where lobster rolls (a chunky lobster salad served on a toasted hotdog bun) or a haddock sandwich are far easier to get than a hamburger. This particular take out had a large backyard with acouple of picnic tables--just right for unleasing some pent up 5 year old energy!

Because A&A have three children of their own, we stay in a neighbor's vacation home

with a breathtaking view of Penobscot Bay.

It definitely makes unwinding after a hectic day of travel a little easier. (The absence of cell phone coverage and a pager seal the deal!)

what beautiful scenery!
so funny! My husband won't let me post on my blog or on facebook for the same reason when we are going on vacation. :) Thank goodness for safe thinking hubbies! :) Hope you enjoyed your trip!
