Daddy's Big Day

How do you celebrate almost 14,000 days of life? Well, if you are the head of our household it starts very early in the morning.

When my hubby got in the shower at 6 this morning the children and I scrambled downstairs in our pajamas to arrange balloons, streamers, bake muffins, don party hats and blowers and wait for a 'supwise pardee for Daddy."

Before the sun had come up, we sang, presented cards and opened gifts. The most notable was from my grandmother. Are you ready for this? It was a Jim Beam shot glass! From my sweet Baptist church-going grandmother...for my conservative, non-shot partaking husband! We giggled until our sides hurt over the irony of it all. Bless her heart!

After church tonight we returned home for a nightcap of milk and cake. As I was cleaning up the plates I was struck by the complete individuality of my children--as represented by the way they eat their cake!

K is a gal after my own heart...it is all about the frosting!
P, on the other hand, has no need for the frosting. He is all about the cake.R, AKA Alex P. Keaton, is a complete neatnik. His hands, face, fork, plate all show little evidence that a 4 year old boy was eating fudgy cake here.
I just hope they are one day blessed with a mate that will be a true helpmate....even when it comes to polishing off a slice of cake!

Very sweet! Your children (and you) will be so blessed as they get older by all of your observations...and you bless your family right now by the thought and prayer you put into your daily lives.

Happy birthday to your husband!

Scott family -

I have been enjoying your blog so much! It's like a good book that I can't put down. My husband keeps wondering when I will be finished. :) I found it from Kelly's blog and it's been so inspiring. I am a mama of a 2.5 yr old, stay at home mom, Communications major, lover of Jesus, passionate about youth minsitry, on the board involved at a teen pregnancy shelter, former sorority girl, strong willed....all the way in Montana. I have loved reading about your parenting, journey to know our Lord more, weaknesses, strenghts, trials, and overwhelming joy to have 3 children. Thank you for being so vulnerable. You truly have a gift and I have loved learning from you! I only have a few more months to read and I will be all caught up! Happy Birthday to your hubby. Rich blessings on you...and I pray your kids sleep in a little bit tomorrow!

Oh so sweet....my three kids eat cake much the same way. Only I have a neat eater, a frosting eater, and a whole-thing eater.

Glad you all had a special day.
