Who's In Charge?

If I ever want to reverse a positive trend in my home, it seems all I have to do is write a post about it!

A couple of days ago I was reporting on my P's self confidence and comfort in his own skin. Then, Sunday he came to me and said, "Mama, I wish I could be R."
(Insert sound of record screeching here...)

"What do you mean? Why?"

"Because he is always in charge. I want to be in charge sometimes too."

I couldn't help but stifle a giggle. My R does believe that he is in charge all the time. He always has the rules to the game. If he is not winning, he quickly amends the rules in his favor. He is amazingly responsible for 4 years old and shows great promise as a leader...but left unchecked at this age it can certainly come across as being a bit bossy.

"Oh, P, you know he is not really always in charge. He just thinks he is."

It made me think about myself. I was a bossy child who grew up to be a sometimes too bossy wife and Mama. I am old enough to realize that I am not always in charge in life--but sometimes I still behave as if I think I am.

I continue to be amazed at the basic life lessons I am learning right along with my 4 year olds!

You can also point out that GOD is always in charge and the rest of us just THINK we are! :)

Nothing like having children to bring out all our warts - but then, if we had no warts, can you imagine how utterly unbearable we'd be to others?

Having said that, I got a little needlework pillow for a dear friend that I felt summed up both our personalities:

"I'm not bossy; I just have better ideas!"

'Nuf said.
