Jesse Tree

A couple of folks asked for a refresher on the Jesse Tree. Here is the link.

I use a very small, rustic tree I purchased at Michael's for under $10. Last year I printed the ornament patterns and allowed the children to color them. They are mounted on construction paper. Then, a hole punch was used to place a ribbon for hanging. I thought we would do new ones this year, but they are enjoying seeing the ones they made last year so far.

The devotions are a little advanced for 4 year olds, but I think the repetition of doing it year after year and the things they will learn make it worthwhile to start at this age.

*Just a note for next year: I recently read about a group that did an ornament exchange where each woman made 20 felt ornaments of the same day, then the women all exchanged to make complete sets.

Thanks for the explanation about the jesse tree! I will do this for sure with mine next year. This year we're doing a nativity scene advent but I like the idea of this one with all the stories from the entire Bible. Good find!

We are doing the Jesse Tree for the first time this year. Our little one is only 3, but like you I think the repetition will make an impression. I cheated and bought my ornaments off ebay. But I would love to have the beautiful felt ornaments.
Maybe if you get enough interest, we could do it! We would have a whole year to get them done.

I just caught up on a few posts -- I really loved your "O Come Emmanuel" thoughts. Beautiful and timeless. Merry Christmas,
Nancy

Good stuff! We're doing a Jesse Tree for the first time this year and I enjoyed getting our ornaments (also free/printed and cut, etc) together as well.
