The Best Christmas Ever

I just have this feeling that my kids are going to have an unbelievable month. We spent the afternoon decorating our trees. For the first time this year, I have one 'grown up' tree in my living room and a 'kid tree' on our sun porch (which I am hanging Christmas cards on as well, courtesy an idea from Sophie last year.)

I am thoroughly enjoying how much more capable the children are lately. We had a terrific afternoon baking sugar cookies, listening to Christmas music and decorating the kid tree. I had to do a little reallocation of the ornaments as they were all on the bottom 1/5th of the tree. I also found several branches with 3-4 ornaments on them. Otherwise, they were really great little helpers!

Mid-afternoon our beloved Annie the (former) Nanny stopped by to ask the children if they would be in her wedding this Summer. We were thrilled at the news of her engagement--and the kiddos are very excited about attending their first wedding. Maybe they will actually realize the happy couple does not get handed babies as their door prize following the ceremony.

Tonight we started our Jesse tree devotionals--and in the morning the children will have their first visit from an elf. Tomorrow night is our town's annual Christmas parade. The season is truly in full swing! The children are truly taking it all in--and remembering certain traditions from last year which completely warms my heart.

I cannot wait to see the wonder and amazement the next 24 days bring. I am not sure who is enjoying this season more so far---me or them.

I am so....THERE! I just can't believe that it is upon us so quickly. I pray that you continue to have a wonderful Christmas season, and that it just gets better and better every day. Thanks for sharing your life with us!

Looking forward to doing those same things with my kiddos in the coming days. Our elf came this morning, and the excitement is in full swing. I am praying that we can make sure to focus on the true gift of Christmas a little more each year!

Hi- I read your blog all the time, but rarely comment. I saw a youtube video and thought of you!!! Have you heard of "The Go Fish Guys"? They sing christian kids music... they have songs that teach the books of the bible and the 10 commandments, that is what made me think of you. They also sing "It's called Christmas with a capital C", it is a really cool song about keeping Christ in Christmas... thought you and your readers might enjoy them!!! I think their website is gofishguys.com but they have several youtube videos!!!

I love your account of traditions! Thanks for the Jesse Tree idea; I think we may institute that one in our home.

I was wondering what a visit from an elf consist of.

Carrie- I meant to leave a link about the elves. I have been a bit leery of the whole Elf on the Shelf concept because I just didn't want it to be too much more emphasis on the Santa stuff rather than the religious aspects of the holiday. I broke down and got this version because it does acknowledges Jesus as the reason for the season. http://www.elf-magic.com I plan to use his little gift bag creatively with periodic verses about Christmas, leave him kneeling in front of the nativity, etc... We'll see if this is a one time tradition...but the kids had a ball with it this morning.

JMom -
I know that you wrote about your Jesse Tree Devotionals last year, but can you remind me?
I am doing an advent study at church and would like to include this in it.
THANKS!
Mindy

I hear you on the magic of this season. I am so surprised at how excited these kids are and how much fun they are having.
Also, my trio have been asked to be in my Best Friends wedding this coming summer. So much fun.

Sorry I deleted my last comment - it did not make sense when I went back to read it and unfortunately I waited until after I posted it to read it :(.

I just thought the door prize of a baby at the wedding was SO funny.

I also wanted to wish you guys a wonderful Christmas celebrating the birth of Christ.

I distinctly remember your traditions post from last year. Where has the time gone?
I linked to your blog today as I wrote about our advent traditions.

I saw Go Fish in concert 13 years ago. They are G.R.E.A.T!

Have a very Merry Christmas!
