This afternoon R ran into the room with a green marker and a piece of white paper and said, "Mama, will you write something for me?"
I obliged and he dictated the following:
"If you go fast I will come and get you like a real police man."
Before I could ask him what he planned to do with that paper, he proudly ran from the room. He returned 30 seconds later with his green marker and a new piece of paper, asking me to repeat the favor. This time he dictated:
"If your house is on fire, I will come and rescue you like a real fire fighter."
"What are you working on, son?"
No answer. Just a flash of a proud grin and he ran to retrieve more paper. He returned with a request for two more dictations.
"If somebody is an ambulance driver they will pick me up when I am a baseball player and I get hurt. When I am at the hospital I will feel better."
And, finally:
"If you are hurt I will come and pick you up in my ambulance then take you to the hospital."
He was absolutely beaming as I completed my task. Then he asked me to get an envelope so he could mail the papers to his friend Thomas. I'd say he must really like Thomas, as these are the ultimate compliments of a 4 year old boy!

Sweet boys... don't ya just love 'em.
I pray he always has that kind of heart and spirit! We all know a few men in our lives who would drop anything to help you if you need them. R will be one of those men!
Jesus loves you.
R's requests sound a bit like the text pattern in the book Runaway Bunny, where the mama bunny says that no matter where her little one goes, she will be there to watch over him. Have you all read that book lately? Either way, what a tender hearted boy you are all are raising!
Linda- I had not thought about Runaway Bunny specifically, but you are right. We haven't read it recently, but it is certainly floating around in his little brain somewhere. Great call!
