There is a lot churning in my heart and mind tonight regarding painful circumstances being experienced by people I love dearly. I read something in Beth Moore's Stepping Up study this weekend that spoke volumes to me. I wanted to pass along (and record for my own ability to return and be reminded) these quotes:
"Lord, my heart is not proud; my eyes are not haughty. I do not get involved with things too great or difficult for me." -Psalm 131:1 (HCSB)
"God, our God, will take care of the hidden things but the revealed things are our business." -Deuteronomy 29:29a (The Message)
The primary reason we are sometimes at a loss for words is that we should be at a loss for words. We're in over our heads and silence is our best option. And when the time for words does come, we're wisest to say what is true: 'I just don't know why things like this happen, but I am so, so sorry." - Beth Moore, Stepping Up, page 134
"I do not seek, O Lord, to penetrate thy depths. I by no means think my intellect equal to them: but I long to understand in some degree thy truth, which my heart believes and loves. For I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe, that I may understand."
Anselm, 11th century monk
These are words to meditate on. Our Sovereign God has mysterious ways. It is not our job to fully understand Him, but instead, to fully trust Him.

Thanks so much for that! I am in the process of doing this very study with an amazing group of women. It has been a long time since I have gotten so much out of a Bible Study....it was made for this time in my life. I'll be praying for you as you work through the same things we are....from your own faithful perspective.
I believe so that I may understand....wow! Words I needed to hear this morning JenMom. Praying specifically this morning for the people in your life that are hurting.
Wow. Those are powerful quotes. I think I may need to keep an eye out for Beth Moore resources. You've quoted her several times, and every time her words, or those she's chosen, speak to me.
I'm sorry for whatever pain those around you are going through and for yours as someone who can only be there for them.
Thanks for sharing this, this morning - again, this speaks directly to me today.
"I believe that I might understand." That went straight to my heart.
Thank you.
