Friday afternoon we journeyed to Atlanta for a little quality time with the Scott side of the family. On the way, we stopped to refuel the car and our post-school hungry children. The smallest containers of milk they had were 16 oz, so the children sipped their JUGS all the way down the interstate. Suddenly from the back R said, "Uh-oh. I don't feel so good. I tink I need to bomit." And then he did. 16 oz of pink strawberry milk covered him (and his carseat) 30 minutes away from our destination. Glorious!
After 10 minutes of roadside clean-up we were back on our way. We arrived at Grandmother and Granddaddy's house to be greeted by the smell of warm, freshly baked cookies. Granddaddy has started a new tradition of baking cookies for the children each time he comes to visit us--and this time had them baking when we arrived at his house.
After warming our tummies with delicious chocolate chips (and dinner) we set off to celebrate Scott's Senior Night football game. Is there a better way to spend a Friday night than watching high school football? If it is 50 degrees and raining...maybe. Nonetheless, the children had a blast. (It helped that we only stayed one quarter.)We spent the night with the grandparents, allowing us to visit great-grandmother Nana this morning before going to see Disney on Ice. On the way through downtown Atlanta we had a new experience. Now that the children have become fairly proficient with phonetic reading they sounds everything out (causing this Mama to CRINGE at a lot of the words they are exposed to in grocery store lines and on billboards--UGH!) The funniest was when P kept repeating, "Cuh- Nuh-Nuh....Cuh-Nuh-Nuh." Finally he said, "I can't figure out what word Cuh-Nuh-Nuh spells!" We were in front of the CNN building.
And while Disney on Ice was fun, the children remarked on the way back to the car that their favorite part was picking up the white paper confetti as we left the facility. All that glitter, hype and glitz and they were most impressed by the plain white paper rectangles from a dirty arena floor. It somehow made me feel both proud and foolish at the same time. Isn't that the story of motherhood?

Jmom-
First off, I always enjoy reading your blog! Your kids are adorable!
I heard about your blog through my neighbor who is friends with someone you used to live with in college! Not sure who that person is, but I can find out.
I have 2 yr old triplets (2 boys and a girl as well- Drew, Jill and Zack).
My question is....where did you get your horse tire swing? Would you recommend it for 2 1/2 yr olds?
Thanks-
Kate
Oh girl, I know your pain. Okay, it wasn't pink milk on the road, but it was a weekend in Chicago that ended up being quarantined to the finished basement since my kid came down with the stomach virus while there. We missed almost everything that we had driven 7 hours to go do. And the bonus? Hubs ended up with it when we came back home. Ugh!
Glad that it was a one shot deal and that everyone remained well and happy!
OMGosh...sorry for the little one to get sick...but glad it seemed to be just an upset tummy and he was still able to enjoy the visit.
Yep the little things that children enjoy costs little to nothing...glad you all had a wonderful trip.
Just wondered on your blog and I am from Georgia and I like meeting new friends from around my state. Look forward to reading more of your blog and getting to know you better in the days to come.
Beth
