I have to tell you, this little mouse is driving me crazy! They call them pests for a reason.
My sticky traps have gone untouched, so last night I installed the ultrasonic repellents to keep our visitor from returning. This morning everything was undisturbed, but when the children & I returned from running a couple of errands around lunch time I spotted a large pile of soil between my herb pots...And right in the midst of my oregano was a nice snuggly hole just right for a mouse nap. UGH! Is he gourmet or what?
And if you were even wondering about the ultrasonic repellents...Mine was less than 2 feet away and did not seem to be effective! Back to Home Depot we go!

Ugh is right. I get shivers just thinking about it. If you have an exterminator for bugs, you could call them and they can treat for mice.
RATS! (no pun intended) I thought for sure the ultrasonic things would work. :( Have a neighbor's cat you can borrow??
Terminix "treated" our initial mouse problem with those sticky pads (which don't work well with kids) but maybe you should put a couple on your window sill and around the sill on the countertops. I just can't stand those cause they just trap the house, you can hear them squealing and then you have to kill them yourself before disposing of them. NOT MY IDEA OF A FUN AFTERNOON!
I bought a live catch mouse trap and nestled it in the pots...we'll see what happens.
I also bought a couple of the old fashioned ones to set at night once the kids are in bed...and to have my husband check and remove before he goes to work in the a.m.
This is riveting stuff isn't it? ;-)
haha I hope yer problem gets solved soon.. not a fun thing to deal with thru the day thats for sure... a place where I used to work had a VERY bad mouse problem.. we found that the sticky traps worked the best.. but they r not pleasant.. they get stuck to them alive and you can hear them flinging themselves around trying to move, squeeking, etc.. haha the boss would have lots of fun upon his arrival since none of us would touch them... the old fashionned traps worked ok for a bit, til the mice got too smart for them... but these ones were pretty brave.. they'd sit right out in the open and watch us... run across the floor in front of us, etc... but they'd be nowhere to be found when trying to catch them... they r pesky that's for sure.. good luck :) Maybe just place more sticky traps around, once the children are in bed; put them EVERYwhere esp. around where they seem to like to nap... we put em EVERYwhere and that's how we'd catch em the easiest... Sorry I don't have any other advice ;) just the stories... Keep us posted...
OMG! We had a mouse in our stove when we first moved in our house. We put out a couple of mouse traps and had them in one afternoon. If you bait the trap with cheese, be sure to wrap gauze around the piece of cheese, so the mouse gets his teeth caught in the gauze and all that movement will set the trap off, otherwise, they will get the cheese AND dig in your herbs without getting caught.
OK sorry to say this to all those animal lovers out there, as I am one as well....But! When the little mice eat a hole in everything in your pantry, it's time for them to go! We have had this issue 3 times. Each time we tried the more "humane" methods of catching them. Like I don't even know what I would do with a live mouse when I caught him. The only thing that works and fast is the old fashion wood/hinge-snappy things you have to set and apply peanut butter on one end. Everytime the problem was taken care of by morning. The thought disgusted me, but no more than the little creatures eating my children's snacks. So I let the hubby take care of business the morning after. Good Luck.
I can't tell from the picture here...it's too small. Is that the mouse on the dirt in the picture? Or just a grayish shadow of some other kind?
Ack, Liz! There is no mouse in the shot. just a shadow. I have yet to catch a glimpse of him.
My only suggestion - get a cat. I've had one for 37 years and have never, ever had a mouse in our house. I get tired of having a cat sometimes but cannot bear the thought of a mouse running around soon as we turn the lights out every night.
