Another Snow Day (sorta)

Our forecast today called for 12-15 hours of snow. We got about 2 1/2. We were forecasted to see about 2 inches. I think this pictures speak for the lack of accumulation.

We were determined to help the children overcome some of their disappointment from earlier in the week. They desperately wanted to make snow angels and a snowman, have a snowball fight and save some snow in the freezer. The snow angels and snow man were impossible, but we did manage to pull together a couple of very small snow balls.

Sweet Daddy had to shake snow off of leaves to get enough. Snow tasting remained the highlight of the event.Today it just tasted "like snow" rather than blueberry candies. And here is my supposed germaphobe, licking snow off of shrubs and off the wooden playground. Good thing there was no flagpole around!

Luring them back indoors was tough, but we managed to come up with a sweet payoff... hot chocolate!
It is going to be COLD here tonight and tomorrow. My hat is OFF to those of you who deal with entertaining children indoors all Winter. It has been a LONG day!

I spent many a day entertaining little ones during long Illinois winters. Some of our favorite activities were the macaroni bucket, and playing grocery store.
I bought a large storage bin and filled it with dry macaroni and occasionally brought it out with scoops, spoons, cups and dump trucks. They would play all afternoon scooping and dumping - on the linoleum of course. When they were done, I'd just sweep it up, put it back in the bin, and close it up until the next time.
Grocery store was really fun too. We had a cart and a play cash register -and toy money. I saved actual boxes from their favorite foods and would set them up around the living room. One would be the shopper and one the checker. We used real grocery sacks too.
They loved "buying" graham crackers, chicken chunks, cereal - things they actually recognized. In your case, maybe the third child could be the person who sacks the groceries.
Oh, I also built obstacle courses through the living room and dining room. They had to crawl under a table, through a box, run around a chair.
Whoo! I'm tired just remembering it; but they sure were precious days.
Great photos, by the way.

My little germophobe loves licking the snow too, it must be the exception to the rule. :)

Love the hot cocoa pic, that is a keeper!

We do art. I spread out a table cloth and give each child a canvas and they paint.

We also play a lot of board games, as well as make tents.

I thought of you today when I heard that Atlanta was supposed to get 6 inches of snow. We are in freezing temps here -5 for the high! YIKES! I am glad your kids are getting a taste (literally) of the snow!

Cute, cute pictures! I love looking at pictures, so thanks for sharing! Your kiddos are growing so fast! My nephews are, too! ::sigh::

Looks like a fun time, though! And it's to get really cold here in PA, too. I am ready for Spring!

My van said -13 when I left my house this morning. You'd think more people would stay home, but the stores were just as busy. We do the macaroni bin at our house too. Shaving cream on a tray is another big hit. Sam drives his trucks around moving the "snow".

The hot chocolate picture is my favorite. So sweet!

That's what one needs the snow for...bundle them up and they are happy for hours!!! We are covered in snow again here which is a welcome sight as we had rain. I can't imagine winter with no snow!

Love the wee snowballs!

It snowed all. day. long. south of Atlanta. Your kids would have had a ball at my house. Loved the pics. The hot chocolate one is a keeper for her wedding day photos. :-) Don't let her Daddy read that last comment!

It is equally hard for those of us that live up north, to imagine 60+ degree weather in the dead of winter. I guess both have some pluses and negatives. I always look forward to the cold of winter...until the beginning of March. Then, I'm ready to pull my hair out.

I love the picture of K drinking her hot cocoa. Looks like she's loving it! You're such a good mommy...they are 3 lucky kids.

It was supposed to snow where we were too, but it didn't do anything. The kids sat outside making faces. It's really cold here right now. My hats off to people that deal with this cold for longer periods of time. BRRRR!!

As always, great pictures. Love the flagpole comment, and your son seems to be discriminating when it comes to germs. I think he's right on - toilet germs are much worse than the bush or the playground wood. What says a day well spent like the cute photo of your daughter at the end.
