Secure

For the last few weeks, P has started looking at me or my husband periodically and saying in a sing-song voice, "You love me." A huge sheepish grin overtakes his face as we confirm, yes, we do love him. Then he generally scurries away, back to whatever he was doing before that grand thought occurred to him.

He never says it as a question. Do you love me? He never uses that statement to get out of trouble. I know I did something naughty, but don't forget you love me. It is more of a proclamation, a verbal reminder.

I pray that each time he says it, it is further imprinted on his heart, because it definitely impacts his parents' hearts. My husband recently commented that it thrilled him to hear P say those words. He loves knowing our son is secure in our love for him.

It got me thinking of the correlation with our heavenly Father. We tell God we love Him. We tell others of God's love for them. How often do we just say: "Wow, God, you love me." Not as a question, not as a reminder to Him when we fear His wrath...just as a simple statement.

May you rest secure in His great love for you today.

"Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders." Deuteronomy 33:12 (NIV)
