A Great Way to Spend the Day

How many of you can say you had a "Bike Party" for your 33rd birthday? I did. :-)

Let me go on record that exercise is not something I particularly enjoy. I love the outdoors, but strolling or sitting in the sunshine reading a book are way more my speed than anything that raises my heart rate , induces muscle soreness or sweat! HOWEVER, as we all know, being a Mom frequently means it is not about you. My children REALLY wanted me to have a bike so I could ride with them. They have bikes and Daddy has a bike. I needed one as far as they were concerned. They have been chattering about it for a couple of months.

My husband happened to have an extra bike stashed in the shed. It needed tuning up in order to be "Mom ready" so he took it to the bike shop last week and the children unveiled it yesterday morning. In the dark at 6:45 am! (They had been up since 5:20)They even got me a bell and a helmet. We had a bike parade in the driveway...and I must admit, I grinned bigger than I have in a while. The children were beside themselves with excitement over the bike "they got me."

We spent the entire day outside, visiting with friends, strolling downtown and working in the yard. In the late afternoon, my in-laws came from Atlanta to babysit so my hubby and I could enjoy a grown up birthday dinner date. They brought a cake (with a bike on it) and bike horns for the children as party favors.

Dinner was candlelit and fabulous. I also got a really fun gift from my husband: outdoor furniture for my patio!

Family, friends, a crisp Fall day and 3 cupcakes, ice cream, birthday cake and an apple turnover a la mode made for a SWEET 33rd! Thanks for the well wishes.

how special! :) Sounds like it was a fun occasion, and the kidlets are at an "old"-enough age to have it be more fun. :)

October is a great time for a birthday - Happy Birthday!

Sounds like a good way to spend the day!
I just saw your comment on my blog, and no, I did not attend U of Alabama. I'm an Aggie whose only connection to Alabama is through my husband's family, who are huge Alabama fans.
That's interesting that there's a Dena out there that looks like me!

Happy belated birthday! I also got a bike not too long ago - everyone else had one, so Mom needed one also. There is a group here locally that ride a very 'easy' ride on Sunday afternoons - just the bike trail out by the park that circles the stadium. Email if you are interested in any more details - it's mostly been several people (ladies) our age from church - but some have had husbands and kids come along too. Great fun and fellowship!

Sounds like a perfect day. Don't you wish you could save a few minutes of those delicious days to savor on a day that's particularly hard?

Oh I cannot wait for the day we can do family biking...even though it's been years since I got on a bike. Sounds like you had a wonderful bday weekend with your sweet family.

How fun! I have a bicycle, but rarely ride it. I need to dust it off. It's nice that you got away with your husband, too. A very special gift, indeed.

Also, you were one of the winners of the Southern Accents magazine. Pop over to send me your mailing info. Thanks!
