3 Questions

I ask a lot of questions. Watching this trait develop in my three year olds has taught me that you can tell a lot about a person by the nature of the questions they ask.

K is very origin oriented. She asks me dozens of times a day, "Where do ____'s come from?" I have decided from her line of questioning that just about everything comes a factory, a farm or God himself.

P is my scientist. Life, for him, is one big experiment. He is constantly wondering about the consequences. As I catch him reaching for the switch to the disposal he looks at me with wide eyes and asks "What it might do?" When I interrupt his attempts at finagling himself out of his carseat, "What it might do?" He is my Worst Case Scenario guy. I think he is constantly weighing if the risk is worth the potential reward.

R, on the other hand, is a fairly straightforward, sports-loving boy. His constant question, "Can I whack that?"

As I type this, I am wondering what question defines me. I wish I could say it was "How can I be more like Jesus?" I strive for that to be it. Truthfully, some days it is "How am I going to get this all done?" or "How can I get MY needs met?"

Working on that!

P sounds a lot like Wes. How can this go wrong?

R sounds like what I think Sophie will be like. Can I whack it.... too funny!

food for thought. My question might be "why did I just do that?". I can totally relate to the "how can I get MY needs met" too. I'd like to be able to say mine is "how can I use this to point them to Christ?".

I love reading your blog because it makes me go a little deeper. It stretches me a little and that's good! Plus, your kids are darling and they make me smile!!

Can I whack this? That is a great question! At least he asks before he whacks it! :)

Or: How many more hours until bedtime? That would be my question, if truth be told. Or: Does the watching of one more video officially nominate me for Worst Mother of the Year?

I, too, wish my constant question was one of more lofty, eternal consequences. That's why I named my blog "Love Well." I want to be able to say, at the end of every day, "Today, I have loved well."

Much easier thought than done, though, as we all know.

New reader, by the way, who's throughly enchanted by your family and your story. And God gets the glory in your writing. I love that.

I am definitely adding "How much longer until naptime/bedtime?" to my list.

My 3 year old Annette is much like K she asks where every piece of food we offer her comes from. I always say God, the Farmer and HY-Vee and her comment back is why Hy-Vee and not Target?
Guess maybe she wants to know if I got the best price for her apples and peaches.
Gotta love the questions...at least most of the time.

You are preaching to the choir, girl!
What a great reminder to look at what defines my life. Let it only be HIM!

Thanks!

This post made me laugh, then say, "um, that's true of me, too" at the end. Thank you for your entertaining and probing insights into life as a mom, and life in Christ. I'm a new subscriber!

Just wanted to delurk to tell you your posts are very encouraging to me. I am often questioning whether I can be the mom I am called to be.

Thanks for sharing your life on your blog.
