The Purpose of a Garage

With 3 small children, you can imagine how many ride-on toys we have accumulated: The triple tricycle Nana bought for the trio's second birthdays, the 3 cars BeeBee & Poppy got them for Christmas, the 3 ride on toys from Grandmother & Granddaddy and the 3 bicycles they received for their 3rd birthdays. Add this to our trusty Choo Choo wagon and our triple jog stroller and our garage is FULL of moving vehicles, albeit none of them gasoline powered. (This does not even count the triple stroller I sold a few months ago and the collapsible double and single strollers I have tucked away.) That is 14 vehicles with total of 59 wheels! My past attempts at purging some of these items were each thwarted by observant and possessive children.

In addition to these vehicles, our garage is also home to an extra refrigerator, a stand up freezer and a set of Nautilus weights my precious husband bought second hand a few years ago (to use in all his free time.)

After telling you this, it probably should not come as much of a surprise that we don't actually park my barge-like SUV in our 1 1/2 car garage.

It had never really occurred to me that the concept of "parking" in a garage was foreign to my children until I pulled in there a few days ago during a fierce afternoon thunderstorm.

"Momma, what are you doing? You can't put a car in the garage!"

"That is so silly."

"Why are you putting our car in HERE?"

"Oooh, it is like a car wash!"

Just doing my part to teach my kiddos how the world works, one marvelous discovery at a time!

Isn't it funny how those things just amaze them! My 17-yo a few months ago said "what do you call that little extra garage they've got" and we replied "A 3-car garage!" It never occured to us that he'd never seen that before! We all got a hearty laugh! Enjoy your day!

And I thought we had a lot of outdoor toys with the 5 boys, but you definitely have us beat! However, I still make sure I can park the suburban in the garage b/c it makes life so much easier and prevents escape artists from running away while trying to load and unload. :)

That is the funniest thing I've read all day.

When we moved last summer, we got rid of all the riding toys they had outgrown. Our girls were more upset about that than the move to another state!! We still laugh about it.

I should also add that I found the best time for purging was naptime -- or maybe some free hours when they're in pre-school down the road. They really never miss the stuff once it is gone.

This cracked me up - that you drove into your garage and they related it to driving through the car wash. Too funny.

I came to your site from another one. I wanted to tell you that I enjoyed reading your sweet blog about your darling triplets.
I also wanted to mention that I saw that you all visited Chattanooga a while back, I grew up near there. Up on Lookout Mountain.
I hope you all had fun there! We were just there visiting for the 4th of July with family.
I looked around some and really enjoyed reading and was inspired by the lessons about our Lord.
May he bless you!

I love this post! This looks like our garage too! That is why my husband is working hard at building a great big shed! :)

Too funny!

It's like when Jacob discovered an iron was for clothes! Whoever heard of such nonsense?

WE have a ton of wheeled items too in our garage - between those and a boat we don't even use - there is hardly room for my van - but I always park in the garage - I don't care what has to come out - my car is going in. Poor hubby has to park in the driveway everyday. :(

I feel your pain with the collection of stuff!

It's funny how such little things like that can just amaze little minds.
