As I was coming back downstairs from tucking the children in tonight I was listening to their chatter. I let out a big deep breath and listened with fresh ears. The sweetness of it all reminded me that the next time I am at my wits end, it would do my spirit some good to think about some of the precious things they do and say these days. So, here is my quick list, in no particular order:
1. R climbing into bed, giving his teddy bear a kiss on the nose and saying, "I missed you today."
2. K putting her head on Daddy's chest last night and saying, "You are a good Daddy."
3. P telling me goodnight then saying, "Mommy, I see you when da sun comes up."
4. The fact that they all 3 refer to Rice Crispie Treats as "Christmas Treats."
5. K telling me this morning (after a little one on one time running errands), "Mom, I enjoyed that."
6. P starting sentences lately with "I'm afwaid we're gonna have to..." Last week we were in WalMart looking for something and when I realized they didn't carry it and started to leave, P said, "I'm afwaid we're gonna have to go to Kmart." There was a stranger on the same aisle who burst into laughter.
7. R pleading with me when he is being sent to Time Out, "Mommy, can I just be nice?"
8. K announcing yesterday afternoon in front of 8-10 people, "Time to go Tee Tee in da pool!"
9. P telling me dozens of times a day, "Mommy, I am big like Daddy."
10. R "reading" books to P during nap time.
11. K looking at a small figurine of a praying woman on my bedside table yesterday and asking, "Mom, was dat you when you was an angel?"
12. The feeling of one of them wrapping their little arms around me and the way they will occaisionally pat me gently as we hug.
13. The way they look at me as I am tucking them in and kissing them good night. No matter how hard the day has been, that last look of pure, simple love ends things on an incredibly worthwhile note.

Ah,
Thats what motherhood is all about.
Mom
Great reminders. And I agree, know matter how l.o.n.g. the day has been, it's something about their faces at bedtime that tend to erase the memories of how hard that day had been.
Been getting reminded of those types of moments, too. I'm glad God's given me the ability lately to see those types of things to reinforce what I'm doing right instead of me focusing on all the wrong I feel like I'm doing lately.
JMom,
You are such an inspiration to me!!! My children are grown but hearing what you go through reminds me of those "good ole days". Hang in there...they will be grown before you know it. I look forward to reading your posts daily. Your children are beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing your precious joys!!!

Riddle me this ... do they actually STAY in bed? Or do you ever feel compelled to use duct tape to prevent them from jumping out 1,000,000 times in 10 minutes?
I, too, walk out of our children's rooms at the end of the day feeling overwhelmed with love. But when I have to go BACK in and pluck them off the top of their dresser, I'm ready to cRaCk in a million little pieces!!
And don't you know that after a long hard day, after we have frustrated Him, God probably looks at us and thinks about us the same way! Amazing to think about, really!
I love that K said, "Was that you when you were an angel." Precious!!
Amen...I love her comment "was dat you when you was an angel?" How precious!
That's a great, fresh perspective, Jessica.
And what precious memories you're making, JMom. Thanks for, once again, sharing your life with us.
Hi! I make it over here every now and then. Love catching up on your sweet babies! I am taking this post idea for my next Thursday 13. Thanks for the grins!
I did Living Beyond Yourself last year and was so moved by it! You will take away something life-changing each session.
Did you know you can visit her blog?

Beth and her daughter write on it. She just posted something VERY real and funny about being a woman and the things we go through! Thought you might like to visit there. ; )
Pure sweetness!!
Oh, that little list just speaks to my mother's heart. Mine are teenagers now and I miss those days. You are so good at noticing the little details - and you will be so grateful in the years to come that you have recorded these little daily things. Thanks so much for sharing!
