The Party

Last year, one of my husband's patients mentioned that she had a farm with several animals and a horse and buggy she often took to birthday parties. She explained how rather than doing this as a business, it was a fun hobby for her. The idea for our 3rd birthday party was born!

It was an easy party to plan and decorate (pails, sunflowers and bales of hay) and proved to be an exciting, fun-filled morning! We had 27 children, 31 adults (including the trio's 2 great-grandmothers), a goat, a chicken, a horse and a week-old calf. We served watermelon, strawberries, snacks and drinks.
The children fed the animals, rode the horse and buggy around the block, played "pin the tail on the donkey" and bobbed for apples. We sang Happy Birthday 3 times and enjoyed A LOT of cake. (I got the idea for the cake from my friend, Kimberly, who has triplets in Memphis...It is the kiddos in their choo choo wagon.)

The weather cooperated, providing a beautiful morning to enjoy God's creations. My favorite memories: watching the children react as each guest (humans and beasts included) walked up the driveway; their glee as they fed watermelon to the horse, a bottle to the calf and feed to the chicken and goat; cleaning up from the apple bobbing to find that EACH AND EVERY ONE of the 17 apples that remained in the bucket curiously had small 3 year-old sized bites in them...and their reaction to their grandparent gifts!

We are all exhausted. I took a 2 hour nap, while the kiddos (& Daddy) are currently on their 3rd hour as I type. We hope to go to the pool this afternoon...if we have any energy left to celebrate!

(Updated to add: The pool was scrapped for a family movie and a nice long stroll around the neighborhood. A perfect low key ending to a busy day!)

Sounds like everyone had a lovely time. The pictures are gorgeous, especially with the new gifts : )

Who did the cake? I am certifiably a horrible cake baker and would love to have a resource here in town before my next child's birthday in August. You can email me by checking my blogger profile. Thanks!

Happy three birthday to the sweet three!

Happy Birthday to your adorable trio!! What a great idea for a party and LOVE those cake! It was so cute to see them on their bikes with the helmets!
I know what you mean by bday #3 being bitter sweet. My boys turn 3 on 8/25, and they are alreay talking about their birthday party at the fire station! Braden even sings happy birthday to himself in the morning! but it is sad because they are no longer little babes.
Enjoy your weekend,
