We All Scream for Ice Cream

The kiddos had a great day today, so I promised them we would go for ice cream after their naps. In a moment of complete thoughtlessness, I decided to take them to a drive thru for ice cream cones. I decided to save 60 cents by getting cones instead of cups. I ordered the smallest size, not realizing "small" means 4 inches off the cone.
Proving that I have indeed lost my common sense, I decided they could handle these cones in the backseat for the 6 minutes it would take us to get home. I will let your imagination fill in the rest.
We finally made it home with the cones basically intact! They looked sort of disgusting, but apparently tasted fine. My little sticky people enjoyed their cones almost as much as I enjoyed watching them.

Finally, in a moment of creative parenting, I decided the best use of their sugar high was to teach them to pull weeds. They had a ball, did a great job--and we made some progress on the yard. It was the only smart decision I made all afternoon.

That's ok. Sometimes the ones that don't seem so smart end up being balls.of.fun! Looks like ya'll had you some big fun there today. ;)

Now you're talking my language...sugar fueled child labor? That's just pure genius.

What a great idea! I'm SO bringing out the Mountain Dew tomorrow for Avery since she's allergic to ice cream! I bet we'll have the yard done in no time! :) Thanks for the tip! :)

I must say, Jen, that when I saw the pics I was thinking, "Brave. Brave. Brave." But when I read tha you gave them to the kids in the car, I thought, "Oh man." However, I think I'll pick up some goods on my next grocery run and enjoy some outside with the boys.

And I'm behind you 100% with the child labor. It's amazing how much they can do at this young age and enjoy it because you are doing it too.

Grandmamma always taught ya'll how to pick up sticks. You had a great time.

LOL. When I was reading Renee's comment, after "Brave. Brave. Brave." I expected the next line to say "Dumb. Dumb. Dumb." It would have been the truth!

Having seen how immaculate and straight the inside of your vehicle is (with the exception of moving day), I was like, "She did WHAT!?!"

Pulling weeds though - that's some on the ball thinking.

I'm constantly very impressed that you manage to get all 3 toddlers together in the same photo - especially when they're high on sugar and probably moving faster than usual!

I get mine to weed the garden too, they are a perfect age for that type of "help"! Glad you are enjoying your trio. Mine are certainly growing like weeds!

they all look so cute.. it used to drive my hubby crazy when I'd match them up in outfits but they just look so adorable that way :-)

So cute! Can't wait for the kids to play together. I used your quote from yesterday on my blog, it was exactly what I needed---still dealing with all this "house" stuff. . . . .

My kids aren't old enough yet to get them to do those things--sugar or not, but I will certainly keep that in mind when they are! :) I was going to ask you earlier and I forgot: How did the transition go from crib to bed for the kids? I just moved Jackson from crib to big boy bed and some days are great and others are horrible. I was wondering how yours did and how you get them to stay there when that is the last place they want to be? Jackson is not even 2 yet though and so sometimes it is hard because I am not certain he fully "understands" what I mean....thanks, Courtney

Just think of it as following Anna's advice from your earlier post--ice cream cones eaten at home aren't nearly as memorable! You're just creating and savoring memories :)

Ahhh, cones, such a sweet yummy mess....but a fun memory!
You are smart to put them to work OUTSIDE :)
I love reading of your fun filled days...we have so much to be thankful for, huh? God is so good to give us precious sticky little fingers to kiss...

Now that's an idea! I'm de-lurking to say that I'm going to pull out the ice-cream this afternoon just so that I can give my kids a sugar high and set them loose on my flower bed! I've been trying to get myself to weed it for days now, but getting them to do it sounds wonderful! LOL
