While we were out...

The kiddos continue to amaze and entertain me with their observations about the world.

Last week, R started demanding "me first" every time we tried to do anything as a group (loading the car, getting a snack, taking turns with toys, etc.) I explained to him that being kind and loving meant letting others go first. I told him that the Bible tells us Jesus said, "The last will be first and the first will be last." The following day he started the "me first" mantra again. I asked if he remembered what we talked about before. He responded, "Yes, Mommy, I be first and somebody else be last."

K, meanwhile, has really started showing signs of her blossoming imagination and creativity. Her new favorite pasttime is looking at clouds, blobs of paint, even the sun visors on our car windows and saying, "Mama, dat looks kinda like a...." Her observations are incredible.

As I have worried if this crazy move is having any negative impact on their security, P gave me the comforting words I needed yesterday. As we were driving home from the playground, R said, "Dis is the way to our new house." P corrected him, "Its not our new house anymore. It is our home."

Out of the mouth of babes is right! They are such smart kids - you can tell just from all the things they think and say. I love how closely you observe them and document what they say. Recording these day-to-day snippets of everyday things will be PRICELESS to you when they grow up! (Makes me wish we had had blogging when my now teenage sons were small....)

I loved the comment about being first, and someone being last - but NOT HIM!! Also, that comment about home just warms my heart! Thanks for sharing these precious things!

Oh, I love that last line. The best compliment ever given to me was a lady telling my house didn't feel like a house at all, but a home. I love that.

Hope your move is going well.

Oh, that says so much (that last comment by Parker). I worried, like you, about the renovation causing the boys to be confused about home, etc. Joshua would say where are we going? And, if I answered "Home." He would say, "Which home the one with stairs or the other one?" But, it all worked out fine. And, if it taught them anything, I pray that it taught them that home is not a specific place. Home is anywhere our family is together.

May God richly bless your new home!!

Hi Jen,

"Delurking" to say how much I enjoy your blog. Not quite sure how I found it, but I'm glad I did. The last comment that Parker made literally brought tears to my eyes. My husband and I are in the middle of an International Adoption, after a long 6 years mixed with infertility and 3 horribly devastating miscarriages. We have one biological daugter that asks for a sibling every day and prays for a "broder and a stister" every night. It hurts my heart that we can't give her a sibling right now. I know that your life must be crazy at times...but what a blessing that they are so close and have each other. I know from reading previous blogs that you went through a lot to get those sweet babies. God is also carrying me through so much and hopefully within the year we will have a sibling for my daughter!

What a beautiful post! I know that wherever those sweet little heads lay at night...there is the home.

Sincerely,
Holly

Jen,

You have brought such beauty into your writing and insight to journaling..Most of all, sharing your love of our Savior... your family will cherish this forever.

I wished I had this when my kids were small....

It will be a very special heirloom...

I am grateful that you are willing to share....

I have been writing devotionals for a long time and I would share some things my kids said... My husband use to get sooooo nervous.... he's so private...

Now that I have learned others enjoy sharing,,, I don't feel so bad...

Blessings to your family in their new home...

I will say a prayer for your new home and your family

In Christ,
Connie
