Day 19: Humility

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men. Titus 3:1-2

I listened to SIX Andy Stanley sermons tonight as I was manically painting the upstairs in preparation for a full day of showing our house tomorrow. During one of them (don't ask me to remember which one at 11:53PM, after the day I have had) Andy talked about how we all want to be known as something (i.e., smart, beautiful, good mother, servant, has it together, etc...) It got me thinking about what I want to be known for...the list is long, but somewhere near the top of the list is authentic. I value honesty. I really like people who are real...and truthfully, have little patience for folks who are fakes.

Tonight as I sat down to review today's virtue, I was struck by the difference in someone who feigns humility, versus someone who really, truly is humble. Then, I looked up the verse and noticed that in the NIV it says show "true humility." God values authenticity, too.

Oh Lord, may my children always strive to know You...so that these virtues I am praying for them are not like articles of clothing that they "put on," but an outgrowth of the great work You are doing in their lives. Truly, may You get the glory for the character in their lives. May they grow to be authentically Yours. Amen.

Thank you for posting your daily prayers for your children online. This is such a treasure, and it will be really neat to see how God answers the details as they grew older. Your children are precious, and they are so blessed to have a mom like you. (And thank you for visiting my blog a few weeks back. I've been trying to comment a few times on yours, but you know how Blogger can be.)

I was just reading your prayer for the day. They are ALL so well written, that I wanted to see the source of where you found them. And low and behold- you wrote the prayers! God has really given you a gift of verbalizing your prayers. You should be writing the calendar! I have been incorporating the prayers into my nightly devotions and just wanted to give you some kudos!
