Coffee & Conversation

Last night in Bible Study we were discussing the velocity of life. The comparison was made to riding a bicycle--the faster you are riding the more it is going to hurt when you crash. If you crash while moving slowly, the injuries are generally a lot less severe.
In the spirit of slowing down, I decided to (gasp!) SIT with my children while they were having breakfast this morning. (I love multi-tasking and feeling productive, so I generally take advantage of their immobility to move around the kitchen doing things that need to be done while nibbling a breakfast bar or two.)
What a blessing to "chat" with them. There are so verbal lately...and are hilarious as they try to figure out how the world works. Their conversations as they explain things to each other are priceless. I was so entertained, that I started taking notes. Here are some snippets of our breakfast conversation:
"Are 'der elepants outside, today?" (It is 6:45 am and still dark.) "Nooooo. Da elepants are in da zoo."
"When da sun gonna come out, Mommee?'"
(As the waffles were in the toaster) "It gonna pop soon?" "It pop lay-der." "Do you hee-yar some-ping?" "Shhh. His-ten. It go pop." "Mommy, it snoke in 'der!" (Me: "No, honey, there is no smoke.) "Oh. No snoke, today?" (Such confidence in my cooking!)
(As I handed out the waffles.) "I got da Mommy waffle." "I got da Daddy waffle." "I got da GWAN-mudder waffle."

You do such a great job of writing things the way they say them. So cute. I especially love the one about who got which waffles. Creative little minds busy at 6:45am, indeed.

They are just amazing aren't they. I always wish I could truly see inside their minds and just how they process things.

Enjoy every moment!

It is so easy for us Mom's to want to multi-task, no matter what our children's ages....thank you for this reminder and another adorable post about your children and their words.

It would do us all well to just sit. Sit and revel in the gift of our children and their imaginations, in fact just in their being here.

As I'm reading this, I'm eating dinner with the boys, who are gargling their milk, dancing in their seats, and giggling at each other. It's good to stop and just spend some non-productive time with them!

(And can I say for the hundredth time how precious your kids are??) :)

Hello, I am a fellow triplet mom in SC. I have three girls that are 15 months. I found your blog, through another triplet mom, amazingtrips, and have really enjoyed reading your updates and seeing days in the life of older triplets. Just wanted to say hello and thanks for sharing your precious family. It's obvious that God has blessed you, and obvious too, that you are giving him all the Glory!

Jen, they are so precious. I love these conversations that you are "recording" and am so excited for the time when our kids are that verbal. You give me so much MORE to look forward to ... it's such an awesome ride!

(Speaking of rides ... in those wagon shots below - I'd definitely be sitting down! Way to go Little Miss Kate!!)

That is so sweet. I tell you, I am ready for the time to change because I HATE getting up when it is dark. Colton is ready to start the day full steam ahead by 7:00am. I will look forward to a little daylight in the morning. We LOVE waffles too. So easy.
